• He recalled that thanks to the support of the government to the technical secretariat of the response, coordinated by Prof. Jean-Jacques Muyembe, the DRC is witnessing to date a significant drop in mortality from 10.5% to 2.3%;
• To this end, it has spread the government's efforts in various response activities, including taking charge of the treatment of all COVID-19 patients, including the funeral costs in the event of death;
• He also mentioned the financial means that the government has just found to support the Ministry of Health in local communication in Kinshasa and throughout the Republic;

Two new provinces of the DRC affected by Covid-19 *

• Two new provinces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are affected by Coronavirus;

• These are Tshopo and Haut-Lomami;

• The case of Tshopo meets people from diverse backgrounds by profession, while that of Haut-Lomami is a trader from Lubumbashi who was apprehended at the Kyolo Toll Entry Point;

• This brings the number of affected provinces in the DRC to 10. * A Covid-19 contact lost to view geolocated in the district cited Maman Mobutu in Kinshasa *

• A contact lost to follow-up was geolocated in the Maman Mobutu district (Cit? Verte) in the commune of Mont-Ngafula in Kinshasa;

• This contact had previously given a false address to the response teams, saying that he lived in the Joli Parc district in Binza / Ozone;

• Before being found, this contact had visited three communes in the city of Kinshasa, namely: Ngiri Ngiri, Kasa-vubu and Mont Ngafula;

• These are the attitudes displayed by some of the cases listed for the Covid-19 in the DRC. Indeed, some people tested positive refuse to accept the laboratory results;

• These people put forward, among other reasons, that they prefer to receive the results where they were taken and not at home or that this disease does not exist in the DRC;

• Another difficulty is linked to the fact that the response teams cannot find certain addresses declared by the cases on the identification sheet. Very often, the telephone numbers declared are non-operational;

• On Tuesday at the fiftieth hospital, a family accused the response teams of having bought the body of one of its deceased members. Alerted, the president of the Infection Prevention and Control Commission, also responsible for dignified and secure burials, went to the scene;

• With two members of this family, they entered the morgue and found the body of their deceased brother

• The response teams deplore this kind of behavior and count on the community commitment of the populations not only of the areas affected by this pandemic, but also of the unaffected areas in order to quickly stop the spread of this virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo. *

* Process of decentralization of the diagnosis through the city of Kinshasa and in the provinces *

• The Technical Secretariat of the Multisectoral Committee for the response to Covid-19 has been progressively decentralizing, since last week, diagnostic tests for coronavirus through the city of Kinshasa and five provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo;

• This decentralization consists of improving the coronavirus detection system at the level of hospitals and provinces in order to reduce the delay linked to the announcement of results across the country;

• The health units concerned in Kinshasa are in particular those which use the GeneXpert to diagnose. These include the Ngaliema Clinic, the Kinshasa University Clinics, Saint Joseph Hospital, the Sino-Congolese Friendship Hospital, HJ Hospitals and the Monkole Hospital Center;

• The five provinces benefiting from this diagnosis are notably Kongo Central, Haut-Katanga, Nord-Kivu, Ituri and Sud-Kivu;

• These five provinces and the six health structures in Kinshasa, epicenter of the pandemic, have been equipped with reagents and cartridges to operate the GeneXperts;

• At the provincial level, Goma, capital of North Kivu and Matadi, capital of Kongo Central, are already operational, while Lubumbashi, capital of Haut-Katanga had its first results on Monday. A team went down that same Monday to Bukavu, capital of South Kivu for training at GeneXpert;

• Nevertheless, it should be pointed out that the strategy is to carry out massive screening, but for lack of means, priority is given to samples from hospitals;

• GeneXpert is a real-time automated technique for quickly detecting mycobacteria. It is no longer used for tuberculosis and has also been used in the case of Ebola virus disease.

Covid-19: DRC exceeds the mark of five thousand confirmed cases
Wednesday June 17, 2020 - 3:30 p.m.

It is true that the death rate has dropped significantly to 2%. However, the rapidly growing number of confirmed cases is worrying. Every day, a hundred cases are reported.

As of June 16, the daily bulletin on the epidemiological situation of the covid-19 pandemic indicates that the country has exceeded the threshold of five thousand cases. A total of five thousand and ninety-nine cases tested positive. With a cumulative of five thousand hundred cases including one hundred and fifteen deaths and six hundred and forty cured.

One hundred and twenty-six new confirmed cases, including one hundred and twenty-four in Kinshasa and two in North Kivu, were reported on June 16. Four hundred and forty-one suspected cases were detected after investigation and five hundred and forty-nine samples were tested. Twelve new people left the treatment centers cured. However, three new deaths from confirmed cases were reported.

The number of provinces affected by this pandemic is still eleven. The city of Kinshasa is full of more cases and still remains the epicenter of the disease. Ten health zones in the capital are affected by covid-19. The Limete health zone comes first with four hundred seventy-three cases, Gombe four hundred and thirty-eight, Kokolo three hundred and ninety-eight, Binza Ozone three hundred and forty-three, Lemba two hundred and eighty -sept, Binza M?t?o two hundred and seventy-eight, Kasa-Vubu one hundred and fifty-five, Kintambo one hundred and thirty, Lingwala one hundred and seventeen and Mount Ngafula one hundred and six cases.

Measures to reduce the spread of covid-19

Since the official declaration of this pandemic on March 10, the country has taken a series of measures to reduce its spread. The state of emergency was declared by the Head of State which resulted in the suspension, until further notice of all flights from countries at risk and transit countries, the postponement of travel from Congo of all resident passengers, the imposition on all passengers, upon arrival at national borders, of filling in an information sheet and submitting, without exception, to the obligation of hand washing and temperature sampling ; the imposition of a quarantine of fourteen days maximum on any person suspected at the end of the temperature test, for a thorough examination and if necessary to intern, in the hospitals provided for this purpose, the people who will be tested positive; equipping all maritime, river, lake and land entry points in the national territory with the same monitoring device to reinforce the control of passengers from abroad; systematic submission of people leaving Kinshasa to the different provinces of the DRC to control measures in order to avoid the spread of this pandemic on the rest of our country.

It was also prohibited all gatherings, meetings, celebrations, exceeding more than twenty people in public places outside the family home; closing of schools, universities, official and private higher institutes throughout the national territory; suspension of all cults and sporting activities in stadiums and other places of sports gathering until further notice; ban on the opening of discos, bars, cafes, terraces and restaurants; ban on the organization of mourning in rooms and homes. The remains will be taken directly from the mortuary to the place of burial and in a limited number of accompanying persons; treatment at government expense of all cases tested positive throughout the country.
