食物及衛生局長周一嶽說，政府正進行顧問研究，以決定是否興建家禽屠宰中心。

The Secretary for Food and Health Dr York Chow said the Government was conducting a consultancy study to determine whether the construction of the poultry slaughtering center.

周一嶽在立法會財委會特別會議上說，由於爆發禽流感，本港每日活雞數量由以前的6萬隻下跌至08年的1萬4千隻。

Dr York Chow, in the Legislative Council Finance Committee special meeting that since the outbreak of bird flu, Hong Kong's daily number of live chickens from the previous 60000 down to 2008 to 10004 1000.

現時市場上活雞所佔比例只有5%，另外30%是冰鮮雞，其餘都是雪雞。 The proportion of live chickens in the market at present only 5%, and another 30% are chilled, the rest are frozen chickens.

當局認為有需要視乎情況，包括控制禽流感的水平，以及市民對活雞的需求，才決定是否需要興建屠宰中心。

It is considered necessary depending on circumstances, including the level of control of avian influenza, as well as the public demand for live chickens before deciding whether the need for slaughtering center.

漁農自然護理署發言人今日表示，今早長沙灣臨時家禽批發市場可供應的活雞數目為1萬6981隻，當中7000隻為內地進口活雞，9981隻為本地活雞，平均批發價為每斤11.9元。

Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department spokesman said today that the Cheung Sha Wan Temporary Wholesale Poultry Market this morning, the supply of live chickens available number 16981, of which 7000 live chickens imported from the Mainland, 9981 for the local chickens, the average wholesale price for the 11.9 yuan per catty.

Food and Health Bureau, Dr York Chow, today (24 days) in the Legislative Council Finance Committee special meeting on food safety and environmental hygiene to make an opening statement.

他說，今天政府將撥款4億6千萬元，處理食物安全事宜。

He said today the government will allocate 400 million 6 million yuan to deal with food safety matters.

據悉，在2010至11年度預算中，「食物安全和環境衛生」政策範疇的總經常開支約為50億元，較去年增加1億8千萬元。

年零售點和本地農場出現雞隻感染禽流感個案，當局隨即禁止活家禽在零售點過夜，亦推出活家禽業結業方案，令活家禽營運者的數目大幅下降，並且要求所有本地雞場進一步提升生物保安措施。

In 2008 retail outlets and local farms chickens infected with avian influenza cases, the authorities immediately ban of live poultry at retail outlets overnight, also launched a program of live poultry trade wind, so that operators of live poultry in a substantial decline in the number of persons, and to require all local chicken farms to further to enhance bio-security measures.

隨著這些措施的推行，禽流感爆發的風險已大大減低。

With these initiatives, the risk of outbreaks of avian influenza has been greatly reduced.

他說，過往在禽流感高風險時提出設置家禽屠宰中心的建議現在是否仍有需要，正是要研究的課題。

He said that, in the past high-risk bird flu poultry slaughtering center made the proposal to set whether it is now there is a need precisely to study.

這主要是科學上風險管理的研究，同時亦要進行商業營運研究。

This is mainly a scientific study of risk management, but also to conduct business operations research.

為此，我們已委託顧問公司重新評估市場對營運屠宰中心的興趣。

To this end, we have commissioned a consultancy to re-assess the market for slaughter operations center interest.

另外，我們亦正研究市民對活雞需求的趨勢。

In addition, we are also examining the trend of public demand for live chickens.

當相關研究有了詳細分析結果後，會就應否興建家禽屠宰中心諮詢立法會。

When the related research has been a detailed analysis of results, will be on whether the construction of the poultry slaughtering center consult the Legislative Council.
