More than 900,000 sheep and goats affected by PPR in Ecuador
? According to the Provincial Inspectorate of agriculture, fisheries and livestock (IPAPEL), peste des petits ruminants key
more than 890 000 goats (70% of herds) and more than 11 600 sheep (20% of herds) in the Districts
Ecuador, Mongala, North-and South-Ubangi Ubangi. According to IPAPEL, vaccination in the districts
affected is required and all contaminated animals must be slaughtered to prevent spread of the epidemic
that could infect more than one million goats and sheep over 60 000. The IPAPEL estimated that households
affected suffer a significant decline in the availability of meat goats and sheep.
