The UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has expressed concern about the progress of rampant cholera epidemic which, according to figures from the Department of Health and WHO, has recorded more than nineteen thousand cases since the beginning of this year, DRC.
The communications officer of the agency of the UN system, Yvon Edounou, expressed concern Wednesday, July 18 in Kinshasa during the weekly conference of the UN.
He said the figures represent 90% of registered cases in 2011 and the DRC provinces most affected by cholera are: Ecuador , the Bas-Congo , South Kivu and Orientale Province.

(Kisangani & Ituri): 5425 cases with 205 deaths (CFR: 3.7%) v) Katanga: 2954 cases with 66 deaths (CFR:
2%) vi) North Kivu: 5,144 cases with 42 deaths (CFR: 1%) vii) South-Kivu: 3,550 cases with 20 deaths (CFR: 1%).
▫ Since the beginning of the year, WHO is working closely with other partners to strengthen
epidemiological surveillance and emergency supplies needed (cholera kits, kits basics) for the sick;
▫ communities are constantly aware to protect themselves from cholera respecting the safety rules
