Dona Ana County Reports First H1N1 Death

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- The New Mexico Department of Health said a 27-year-old Dona Ana County female with no chronic medical conditions died this last week due to the H1N1 virus. It's the county's first swine flu death and as of today there have been 731 hospitalizations in New Mexico, with 74 of them in Dona Ana County, the second most for the entire state.
?In some cases we're going to see deaths in people that are otherwise healthy who don't have chronic medical conditions which is why it's always important to get vaccinated,? said Chris Minnick of the New Mexico Department of Health.
Minnick said there are still no public mass vaccinations clinics scheduled in Dona Ana County, so private practitioners are still the only ones providing the H1N1 vaccine as of right now.
