Dengue and malaria have a high incidence so far this year

Santo Domingo, DR

A high incidence of dengue and malaria cases presented during the first three weeks of this year, exceeding expectations in the same period last year.

Until January 18, the system had recorded 941 cases of dengue and 111 of malaria, while that same period of 2019, the cases were 223 and 25 respectively, according to epidemiological bulletin three that includes notifications up to January 18.

During that period, the country had registered 1,260 cases of dengue for a cumulative national incidence of 156.11, with a cumulative epidemic index of 4.68, above the expected level (reference 0.75 to 1.25)...

For an increase of 817 compared to the same period of 2019

Santo Domingo, RD.- 3,193 cases of dengue were reported in the country so far this year, for an increase of 817 compared to the same period in 2019, while malaria cases reached 563, with an increase of 372.

In the midst of the health emergency due to the Covid-19 pandemic, dengue and malaria cases skyrocketed in the country.

At the end of June 8, corresponding to week number 20 of the Epidemiological Bulletin of Public Health, the following statistics are recorded:

The epidemiologist, Jos? Ernesto Guerrero alerted the population to remain vigilant to prevent further increase in these cases.

Residents of the Tres Brazos, one of the sectors with the highest number of dengue and malaria, attributed the product situation to the lack of basic services.

In this bulletin compared to last year, other diseases such as leptospirosis, diphtheria and human blonde have registered a decrease in cases.
