Dominican health officials issue alert amid rising cases of dengue, deaths

Officials said Friday that there have been a total of more than 5,220 cases in all this year. That's nearly 800 more than at the same time in 2014...

Dominican Republic: 73 Dead Cases of Dengue Fever Reported

Santo Domingo, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican authorities on public health reported Tuesday evening that they confirmed 73 dead people by dengue fever, 20 of them at the Robert Reid Cabral Hospital of the Dominican capital.

The data also show 6,268 possible cases of the disease, while in 2014, in the same period of the year, the number of cases was of 4,585.

Official data recorded sick people up to 37 epidemiological weeks, with 480 cases, mostly in the capital...

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) ? ...

On Monday, Health Minister Altagracia Guzman said the effort comes amid an uptick of the mosquito-borne illness. Besides spraying, workers will teach people how to destroy mosquito breeding areas around their communities.

So far this year, there have been 98 deaths and over 8,500 reported cases. That's nearly double the 52 dengue deaths reported during the same period in 2014.

Among the victims is local TV presenter Juan Luis Reynoso. He died over the weekend following health complications caused by dengue.

Hospitals overwhelmed by suspected dengue cases

Santo Domingo.- Dozens of children and adolescents with fever symptoms are flocking to the emergency departments of the capital?s main children?s hospitals, as parents fear that they may be suffering from dengue fever.

The deputy director of Robert Reid Cabral Children?s Hospital, Clemente Terrero, said that they had admitted 41 children with probable dengue diagnoses yesterday, including two in intensive care.

She said that on Saturday five children with suspected dengue were admitted, but pointed out that two weeks ago the numbers were higher.

Dengue: Ninety Two Deceased People in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo, Dec 16 (Prensa Latina) A total of 92 people have died ihn the course of the year 2015, up to now, in the Dominican Republic, said the 47th Epidemiologic Bulletin issued by the Dominican Public Health Ministry Wednesday.

The Public Health Ministry stated that 14,658 cases have been registered. The incidence of the virus is of 108 percent over the standards in the last five years in the nation...
