Public Health minister wants everyone to join the fight against dengue

SANTO DOMINGO.- From the more than 1,400 dengue cases reported in the first quarter, the authorities expect that it will be one of the tropical diseases which will most affect Dominicans this year.

Public Health minister Bautista Rojas urged the heads of health areas not to waver and to continue the operations to restrain it.

During the ceremony to integrate 256,000 students to the national effort to prevent the disease, the officials said ?if each student in the Dominican Republic conducts this exercise in their home, we would be eliminating millions and millions of the mosquito?s breeding spots and in that same manner thousands of Dominicans will not be exposed to the disease."

Next week the Health Ministry will conduct joint operations with the City councils and the Armed Forces and Environment ministries, to eliminate the containers which serve as reservoirs for the mosquito to reproduce.

Rojas also urged the universities, through their schools of medicine, to address sanitary aspects related to tourism and immigration, which he feels are indispensable and strategic to the country?s economy.
