"Case at Camp Pendleton
November 6. A Marine Corps recruit was diagnosed with meningococcal
disease. The patient recovered well with no adverse sequelae.
The patient had been vaccinated with Menactra in September. Both
the NHRC bacteriology and molecular labs serogrouped the N. meningitidis
as Y.
Fatal Case at the U.S. Naval Academy
November 17. A midshipman died of meningococcal disease. The
death was widely reported (e.g., http://tinyurl.com/5brrva). The patient
had been vaccinated with Menactra during the prior summer. No laboratory
data are yet available."
