Doctors among swine flu sufferers

Two hospital doctors are among the latest people confirmed with having swine flu, it has emerged.

Both are doctors in Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and are thought to have caught it from patients being treated there, the Scottish Government said.

They are among 22 newly confirmed cases of swine flu, taking the Scottish total to 141.

Any protection being used for health care workers is obviously not effective. Perhaps no extra precautions are being taken, in which case, the doctors themselves could become spreaders of influenza.

Am unable to copy the above NHS advice, as it is a pdf, but the link states that even asymptomatic contacts of confirmed A/H1N1 patients "voluntary isolation is not usually necessary. In the case of Health Care Workers...discuss with your local Health Protection Team."

From the above link, PPE is recommended only for the collection of samples from patients displaying influenza symptoms who have had contact with a confirmed or probable patient.
