A Canadian doctor may have brought Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) back home after it?s believed he was exposed to the virus from a patient in Florida, according to reports citing U.S. health officials.

According to reports, the doctor is apparently not showing symptoms of MERS, and health officials have not revealed where the physician is right now.

The doctor is one of about 100 people who may have come into contact with a patient in Orlando who has a confirmed case of MERS.

Hospital officials said he travelled to Canada before he knew he might be at risk. They said he?s taking the proper precautions and will undergo testing...

A Florida doctor who was exposed to the MERS virus travelled to Canada before knowing he might be at risk, Florida health officials have confirmed.

Geo Morales, a spokesperson for Orlando Health, told CTV News on Wednesday that efforts are underway to test the doctor for the potentially fatal respiratory virus that has affected hundreds of people in Saudi Arabia.

Morales would not say if the Orlando-based doctor is Canadian or American, but he did confirm that the doctor came to Canada by plane and he remains in the country.

A Florida doctor who travelled to Canada after being exposed to MERS has tested negative for the virus, a Health Canada official has confirmed to CTV News.

The doctor?s exact location was not revealed, but officials said he had isolated himself in his hotel room until he could be cleared...

U.S. doctor exposed to MERS leaves Canada

TORONTO ? The Public Health Agency of Canada says an American doctor who came to Canada after being exposed to the MERS virus has been allowed to return to the United States.

A spokesperson for the agency says the unidentified man did not develop symptoms of Middle East respiratory syndrome and tested negative for the virus.

Stephane Shank said the doctor returned to the U.S. with the consent of both Canadian and U.S. public health officials.

The man learned after coming to Canada on vacation that he had been exposed to the second case of MERS detected in the U.S., in a Florida hospital. The doctor isolated himself while in this country and underwent testing.

Shank did not indicate when the man returned to the United States or how often he was tested before being cleared to travel.

He also did not say how the man travelled back to the United States.
