They are definitely going to have to reevaluate their definition of close contact! From Tetano's post -

"According to the public video comparison of the public security department on February 5, it was found that at 7:47 am on January 23, the patient was shopping with a passerby at Shuangdongfang Vegetable Market (patient confirmed in our district 2: female, 61 years old, who lives in Cuibai, a cultural and educational street) West Lane, to participate in the blessing event on January 19th) There was a short (about 15 seconds) short stay at the same booth, and neither of them wore a mask. At present, a total of 19 patients with close contact with 5 patients have been traced, all of which have implemented centralized medical observation.

This seems to be the only contact this patient had with someone else they know was infected.

Suspected coronavirus patients scream as they are dragged from homes

Disturbing footage from China appears to show suspected coronavirus patients screaming as they are forcefully dragged from their homes.
Men in hazmat suits are seen shouting as they hold a man and a woman by their arms and roughly shove them down a corridor in the video, said to be filmed in Jiangsu.
A topless man wearing jeans resists the group by lying on the floor as a woman yells in the background. The group wearing protective clothing pauses briefly before surrounding him and attempting to pick him up...

"The recommendation against fogging was based on studies in the 1970’s that reported a lack of microbicidal efficacy (e.g., use of quaternary ammonium compounds in mist applications) but also adverse effects on healthcare workers and others in facilities where these methods were utilized. Furthermore, some of these chemicals are not EPA-registered for use in fogging-type applications."

He spoke out about the Wuhan virus. Now his family and friends fear he's been silenced

(CNN)As people across China mourned the death of a whistleblower doctor in an almost unprecedented outpouring of grief and anger on Thursday, little did they know that another truth-teller of the coronavirus outbreak was being silenced, according to friends and family.

Chen Qiushi, a citizen journalist who had been doing critical reporting from Wuhan, the central Chinese city at the epicenter of the outbreak, went missing on Thursday evening, just as hundreds of thousands of people in China began demanding freedom of speech online...

I saw this earlier and was overwhelmed with emotion.

it is still flu season, too - hopeful it is related to flu and not COVD-19 directly or indirectly, i.e. starvation or homicide (social upheaval there could increase homicides as it has suicides).

The next concern, if deaths not related to COVD-19 is - how many deaths have to occur before body bags run out? And - why would they not reuse them if needed? Makes me wonder if they do this type of packaging routinely?

"I would think that after use, the body bags are contaminated so unfit for reuse"

In a situation like this though - who would be affected by contamination? If the person is dead, they aren't at risk. The person packaging the dead is at risk, but would be in same risk packaging the body as handling a used body bag and thus dressed for it.

On a side note, I did see a tweet associated with the video that said carbon monoxide killed several children in one family and they were brought to the hospital for care and died. I can only hope this is the case because the alternatives are horrifying.

Cai Yi, director of Wuhan Central Hospital, wrote: I mourn the boss, Lin Jun, I will give you this

Surging journalist Deng Yafei

2020-02-12 15:01 Source: Surging News

At more than nine o'clock on the night of February 11, Cai Yi, the director of the pain department of Wuhan Central Hospital, who has been fighting the frontline of the epidemic, wrote a long post on his Weibo to mourn the owner of the canteen at the gate of the hospital who died of new crown pneumonia Lin Jun.

More than a decade ago, when Cai Yi first came to work in the Central Hospital, Lin Jun opened a canteen at the hospital entrance.

The scenes of that year were still before him. For a long time, Cai Yi and colleagues always called the boss Lin Jun to send this and some to each department, as long as a phone call, "A man with a round face, black and black, and a kind face, pushed the car and put Send things up and tell us exactly that they were sent by a doctor, and then hurried to the next stop. "

On February 11, Lin Jun's boss died of new crown pneumonia in the emergency observation room of Wuhan Central Hospital. Cai Yi wrote with emotion, many of these little people around us are not so eye-catching; suddenly, without them, we found out that he is so important in our lives.

So he wrote this article and said goodbye to Lin Jun. The paper (www.thepaper.cn) obtained the consent of Cai Yi and published this article.

[Farewell to Lin Jun]

Lin Jun is gone.

Today, I just finished checking my room, took off my protective clothing, took a breath in the clean area, and looked at the colleagues WeChat group. I was surprised that Lin Jun was gone!
Lin Jun, who is it? I do n’t know if his name is Lin Jun, or Lin Jun, or Lin Jun! But every veteran of the Wuhan Central Hospital knows him.

He is not the dean or the secretary, but the owner of the canteen at the gate of the Nanjing Road Courtyard.

I always remember when I first came to the hospital, more than ten years ago, I was still in the Department of Anesthesia. Some doctors and acquaintances had surgery. Thanks. The red envelopes sent by colleagues seemed too rusty, and I often called, "Lin Jun, ah You give a box of water to the operating room of the anesthesiology department! Throw a box to the doctor's office of the nurse station in a certain department, I will check out after work! "

Then there was a familiar "Okay!" Over the phone. Before long, a man with a round face, a black face, and a kind face, pushed the car and brought things up, telling us exactly that it was A doctor sent it, and then hurried to the next stop!

In a few years, there will be more and more courier services. Our doctors will be busy. We ca n’t wait for the courier brother.

For so many years, he has always smiled at us kindly and never complained.

Once upon a time, our doctors in white coats did not bring money. At that time, when WeChat payment was not popular, we went directly to his store, took water, biscuits, and gave them later! I sometimes forget how long in the future, and suddenly pass by, "Boss, how much am I missing you?" He always smiled kindly, remember to say the number clearly, remember the number, and discuss with us.

The iron-battled camp, the running soldiers, the hospital director and the secretary changed, but Lin Jun was still there. But today we heard bad news, he is gone!

The previous two days, I clearly remember that our old director of anesthesiology called me to ask if I had a bed. In this outbreak, the old director knew that it was difficult for me. Rejected, and asked, who is it? The old director brought a sentence, Lin Jun of the canteen was infected. I wanted to ask if you could arrange one. I don't think he cares so young.

Just two days later, he left, walked in our hospital emergency observation room, both lungs, all white! I felt guilty and asked the emergency brothers. They said there was nothing they could do. It was developing too fast. Unless there was ECMO, there might be a vitality. This made my guilt a little bit less.

How many ECMOs are there in our hospital? In addition, one of our old dean Xia Jiahong came from the Han Hong Fund to "relate", a total of two!

An inconspicuous little person, waiting for bed, is still difficult, how can I have the opportunity to use ECMO to continue his life?

I heard that he loved and was infected.

A lot of these little people around us are not so eye-catching. Suddenly, when we disappear, we realize that he is so important in our lives.

The pandemic is so ruthless! Not only to the big people, not just to the doctor, but also to ruthlessly hit these little people.

In front of the plague, all the people waited. Whoever supports it, whoever can't support it, three points are artificial, seven points of heaven!
In the blink of an eye, I was on the line, worked for twelve days, managed 32 beds, and by this time, 25 patients have been discharged from hospital and 22 have been clinically cured. The three non-clinical cures have left forever.

Li Wenliang was gone, and Professor Lin Zhengbin of Tongji Hospital was gone. A shop owner is gone, and my 3 patients who were not clinically cured are gone. Who knows?

We are all little people. In the baptism of this epidemic, we silently give and bear the parting of life and death.

The deceased is dead, but the alive will continue!

Is the doctor tired of work? I'm not tired of telling you, don't you believe it? But really not tired! At least the working hours now are much easier than the days when I operated. It is normal for a surgeon to work for more than ten hours a day, and we have come here for so many years.

But unfamiliar diseases, the fear of being infected, the lack of supplies, the panic that the epidemic does not see the end, the helplessness of the patient on the verge of death, the collapse of colleagues around us, these psychological pressures put us in layers shackles!

Many doctors have a feeling that when they are about to go to work and put on protective clothing, they suddenly feel weak! It's not just tired!

Fortunately, there are a group of like-minded comrades in arms who encourage each other and move forward together.

Fortunately, there is also a group of lovely Wuhan citizens, and fortunately, the family relationships of the Chinese compatriots across the country warm us and support us.

In the blink of an eye, the hospital informed me that I could take my team down and be on top of the rehabilitation doctor! During this 14-day period, my team managed the number of patients discharged from hospitals, and ranked the best in each hospital district.

But I heard that the rehabilitation department was understaffed. When the old director of the rehabilitation department was going to take up the post in person, I did another thing that violated the principle and took four guys to continue the next 14 days! Help rehabilitation doctors to continue their next job in the second ward!

Many teachers care about me and ask me when to rotate, I said, I do n’t want to change, I ’m afraid of boredom, and I will have problems at home!

But the real answer is, I just want to stand here, on the front line, there is no reason. Even if there were enough people in the rehabilitation department, I didn't want to come down.

I feel that I can do it. I can handle the pressure and treat as many people, small people, and Wuhan citizens as possible as soon as possible!

Li Wenliang is gone, Lin Jun is gone, maybe my colleague is being rescued, maybe one day, I will not be able to withstand the pressure, maybe one day, I will be infected.

But what about it?

The doctors of Wuhan Central Hospital are responsible for the province's second rescue task after Jinyintan Hospital. What is the fear of the epidemic now?

Boss Lin Jun, I just sent you this way, thank you for your help and companionship to our brothers in the Central Hospital for so many years. Don't blame me, at the last moment, I did not send you a ride!

On the way to heaven, brother, all the way!

Hubei will build another emergency reserve hospital

@ 新华 视点 -11 hours ago

As the county with the most severe outbreak in Huanggang City, Hubei Province, Laishui County is urgently requisitioning a new Maternal and Child Health Hospital under construction as an emergency reserve designated hospital. It is planned to be completed and put into use within 7 days, and it is expected to add 200 new beds.

Huanggang City is a relatively severe epidemic area in Hubei Province. Huanggang City Health Committee reported that as of 21:00 on February 11, 2020, Huanggang City had accumulated 2398 confirmed cases, of which 280 cases were confirmed in Laishui County. The new crown pneumonia epidemic prevention and control headquarters in Lishui County decided on the 10th to build a Xiaoshuishan Xiaotangshan Hospital based on the principle of "being prepared rather than used, not available but not prepared".

In the morning of February 11th, a number of excavators, forklifts and nearly a hundred workers officially entered the site and started construction. The newly rebuilt hospital will be constructed strictly in accordance with the "three zones and two passages" standard, and will urgently renovate a ward and a staff dormitory, and build a steel canteen. The hospital will be completed and put into use by February 18.

HONG KONG: Over the past couple of weeks, Chinese citizen journalists Chen Qiushi and Fang Bin have served as the world’s eyes and ears inside the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, the city of Wuhan.

Broadcasting via their mobile phones, they’ve offered a glimpse of how dire things have been. Many of those videos have been posted to Twitter and reposted on YouTube.

Now one of them is missing...

Chinese video journalist Chen Qiushi, who covered coronavirus, missing in Wuhan

February 10, 2020 11:55 AM ETTaipei, February 10, 2020 -- Chinese authorities must immediately account for the whereabouts of journalist Chen Qiushi, and ensure that the media can cover the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan without fear of retribution, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today.

Chen, a freelance video journalist, traveled to the city of Wuhan in Hubei province from Beijing on January 24 and began filming and reporting on the health crisis in the city, according to his posts on YouTube, where he has 440,000 followers, and Twitter, where he has more than 250,000 followers. His videos reported that local hospitals were short of resources and were struggling to handle the number of patients who needed treatment.

On February 6, he told his family that he planned to report on a temporary hospital, and has not been seen since, according to news reports and a video message from Chen’s mother.

“Authorities in Wuhan must disclose whether they are holding journalist Chen Qiushi. If they are, then he should be released immediately,” said Steven Butler, CPJ’s Asia program coordinator, in Washington, D.C. “China does not seem to have learned the clear lesson that bottling up the truth about a spreading illness will only make matters worse.”

On February 1, Chen uploaded a video from journalist Fang Bin, depicting Fang’s encounter with local authorities who claimed to be conducting virus inspections. Wuhan police briefly detained Fang and asked him to stop uploading videos about the outbreak after he filmed his visits to local hospitals, according to news reports.

When CPJ messaged Chen’s Twitter account, which has continued posting since the journalist disappeared, the person running the account identified themselves as Chen’s friend and said they wanted to maintain anonymity. They told CPJ yesterday that they had received no information on Chen’s whereabouts since he disappeared.
