I assume you won't shed by eyes, so this is not to protect the patients.
One Swiss recent restaurant-case found masks much more effective than face-shields
https://www.businessinsider.com.au/...eople-from-coronavirus-swiss-outbreak- 2020-7

normal glasses should work just as face-shields or goggles {?} I mean, there must be wind
from the source to your eyes to get it. But you close your eyes automatically when
there is wind towards them.

, the absence of SARS‐CoV‐2 RNA in tears and conjunctival secretions of 29 COVID‐19 patients without conjunctivitis, 1 provides evidence that SARS‐CoV‐2 does not replicate in conjunctival epithelia, which also indicates that SARS‐CoV‐2 is less likely transmitted through the conjunctiva. The detection of SARS‐CoV‐2 RNA in tears and conjunctival secretions of the COVID‐19 patient complicated with conjunctivitis is a coincident event, rather than a causal event of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection of the conjunctiva.

https://www.corona24.news/c/2020/07...y-patients-were-reconfirmed-in-bucharest.html

Romania registered on Thursday a new negative balance of coronavirus cases, registered on the territory of the country. In the last 24 hours, 41,275 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus were confirmed, with 1,112 new cases of disease. Distinguished from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 393 people were reconfirmed positively. ...snip

She now kept a diary of sorts. The federal government required her to fill out a form for every case. She got to these around 9 at night. Rather than simply fill in the blanks, as she’d done before the pandemic, she wrote up everything that happened so she could go back and see how and when things had changed. Back in March, for instance, she’d been required to ask the new positives if they had shared food with others, or touched communal surfaces, or walked through rooms with other people in them, or — well, there’d been all kinds of theories about how the virus spread, and the guidance she received in the morning was sometimes obsolete by that night. By June she was asking people with Covid-19 a single question: Who have you been within 6 feet of for more than 15 minutes? Six feet, 15 minutes. “Food isn’t a carrier,” said Erica. “It’s not ‘They walked through a room and got it.’ It’s people who sat down at a party and spent time talking.”

That's reassuring, but I can't help but think coughing, singing and maybe shouting might infect others in less than 15 minutes. But I haven't heard anyone cough in a couple of weeks, and supposedly Covid is still spreading locally in spite of all the security stores are doing. Maybe it is just more testing or the spread is among the unsober night crowd...

"The other case that stuck in her head was the meth dealer. The Public Health nurses had gotten to him soon after he’d been infected and, though he was dismissive of their advice, said he would isolate himself. Erica suspected he was still sneaking out at night, and her suspicion was confirmed when he infected a buddy of his, who in turn infected his daughter-in-law. The buddy’s daughter-in-law, who had no symptoms, went to her job at Alder Bay Assisted Living, a nursing home in Eureka. More than a dozen staff members and residents became infected. Four died."

We Should Consider Starting Covid-19 Vaccinations Now
Steven Salzberg
> why not start administering millions of doses right now? We should. [without phase 3]
{the risk from side effects being lower than the risk from COVID due to vaccine-delays}

# I was wondering, why this hadn't been widely discussed already since February.
# Also, the number of people/animals in the phases and the number of phases,
# that should all have been optimized for this situation
# and not just been taken from previous regulations

all these "waves" ... it looks like normal epidemic waves to me..
Up and down, determined by immunity.
Although only a few % of the population are infected in such a wave, determined by later antibody tests.

That might also explain the emergence of a 2nd wave 3 months later, when immunity wanes.
http://magictour.free.fr/e-0802.GIF

It is still somehow unclear to me, whether it had been the lockdowns that crushed the 1st wave in most places.
Was it ever conclusively proven ?
I'm more positive to the social distancing, the mobility-reduction which obviously did help.

From ‘brain fog’ to heart damage, COVID-19’s lingering problems alarm scientists

By Jennifer Couzin-FrankelJul. 31, 2020 , 1:30 PM

Science’s COVID-19 reporting is supported by the Pulitzer Center and the Heising-Simons Foundation.

Athena Akrami’s neuroscience lab reopened last month without her. Life for the 38-year-old is a pale shadow of what it was before 17 March, the day she first experienced symptoms of the novel coronavirus. At University College London (UCL), Akrami’s students probe how the brain organizes memories to support learning, but at home, she struggles to think clearly and battles joint and muscle pain. “I used to go to the gym three times a week,” Akrami says. Now, “My physical activity is bed to couch, maybe couch to kitchen.”

Do any of you know which country from former East Europe does not send their genome sequence for the virus (Covid 19) to the international database ?
We in Iceland are dealing with a Covid 19 strain from an unknown origin, most likely originating from former East Europe.

The conclusion we offer is that the “cure” government measures have inflicted upon individuals
542 who are not affected by SARS-CoV-2 (NSC2) is, in many instances, scientifically not justifiable and
543 may very well cause more damage than the virus itself. This hypothesis was recently substantiated
544 by a document leaked from the Ministry of Interior Affaires in Germany [97]:
545
546
547 The observable effects of COVID-19 do not show sufficient evidence that-in relation to the
548 health effects on society as a whole-it is any more than a false alarm. The new virus probably did not
549 at any time pose a risk to the population that went beyond normal.
550
551 We are likely to be dealing with a global false alarm that has remained undetected for a long
552 time. This analysis has been checked by the “KM4” for scientific plausibility and does not essentially
553 contradict the data and risk assessments submitted by the RKI [German CDC].
554
555 The collateral damage is now higher than the apparent benefit. Comparing deaths that are
556 due to the virus alone with deaths caused by the state-implemented protective measures confirms the
557 finding.
558
559 That means also that, in the greatest crisis that the Federal Republic of Germany has ever
560 seen, the government might have been the biggest producer of the kind of “fake news” against which
561 the state is purportedly fighting against.

I was wrong. Thanks to all those who offered constructive criticism
I was wrong. We can't skip phase 3 vaccine trials
I wrote a blog post over the weekend that has generated tremendous pushback,
including an op-ed in the New York Times as wel as thousands of comments on forbes.com

# still, it should depend on the actual COVID-risk how much testing you require.
# other countries (China,Russia) see it differently

you can search genbank

you could also send a sequence or better just the mutations and I search the closest from
lists from genbank (13411), UK (16380), Germany (237), not GISAID

or I think, genbank has a "blast" , I never used it

there is this economy-professor from Hannover, who was involved in organising some
earlier demonstartions. I followed him a while on twitter https://twitter.com/SHomburg
I think it started with RKI showing that the R0 went down _before_ the government measures.
He argues that Germany had few deaths, and the economic consequences are far worse.
Which is sort of true, but you can't know in advance and in other places it was really bad.

We were watching the demonstrations on DW's channel last night.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6At1TH-gbW0
Some are calling for Merkel and Drosten to resign. I have wondered if host biology vs circulating strain has driven how mild the disease has been in Germany, but there was and is no evidence to drive policy.
We have had low deaths and hospitalizations in WA state, but we had the original Wuhan strain here early and I think that could have been protective for a lot of the population. Also we don't attract retirees like FL, AZ and TX and a lot of people here love outdoor exercise and fitness. (Not all, though!)

Isn't that the basis of the T-cell theory? I am seeing quite a bit more now on the 20% heard immunity idea and if you look at places where the numbers have dropped that seems to be the unpopular thought with many watching the data (US data vs. European data).
