Hello Shannon. Didn't get around to saying it before, but I hope your arm is doing better. I can too, my heart just broke for you.

if it was in fact the elderberry tonic, (btw, elderberry is my guess too) .....what is your opinion? That to be successfull, treatment begins after first symptoms of flu were recognized....or a combination of long term maintainence during the flu season (which needs to be periodically given a two week break btw)and then the additional dosage (which is roughly double of the maintainece dose) for actual treatment. I'm wondering if the initial maintainence dosing is critical. And.....if my few bottles of sambucol, intended for treating after the fact, is enough.

TsalagiT, I appreciate your kind words regarding my broken arm. Happened in the line of duty (flu prepping) though so, I wear the splint proudly. :D

As for the Sambucol. I have to answer this question from a personal point of view as there is little to corroborate my findings from a clinical testing standpoint. If I was to use the Sambucol alone, how much and when depends on several factors. Most of us, me included, do not have the funding needed to purchase a several month supply of the compound. If I was isolated then I would not use my limited supply until I came into contact with someone outside my home. If I was going out and meeting others on a daily basis then I would purchase dried elderberries and make my own extract, far less expensive that way. It has never been tested directly by itself against the virus however there is evidence to support it as the active compound in the Sambucol. But, neither of these is what I plan to do. I would not depend solely on the elderberry extract or Sambucol alone. I would take curcumin with piperine (unless it is contra-indicated because of some specific illness) on a daily basis. The bf disease kills primarily by triggering ARDS. Because of this I would hold off using the Sambucol until I either knew I was sick or, had knowingly come into contact with someone who was sick. The curcumin would not address the virus itself but, it could help slow the progression of ARDS long enough for me to start taking the other substances and, I would continue to take the curcumin and piperine as I believe it would lessen my chances of developing ARDS.
