WHO Issues Rare Rebuke to China for Delaying Virus Origins Trip
2021-01-06 05:00:22.838 GMT

By Bloomberg News
(Bloomberg) -- The World Health Organization expressed
disappointment with China for delaying the travel of experts to
the Asian country to investigate the origin of the virus, in a
rare instance of public criticism from the international
organization.
Chinese officials have not yet finalized permission to
allow WHO-appointed experts to enter the country even as some of
them embarked on travel, said WHO Director-General Tedros
Adhanom Ghebreyesus in a briefing on Tuesday. The delay comes
despite months of negotiation and planning between Chinese
officials and the 10-member expert team.

“I am very disappointed with this news given that two
members had already begun their journeys and others were not
able to travel at the last minute,” Tedros said. “We are eager
to get the mission underway as soon as possible.”
The delay by Chinese authorities fuels concern that Beijing
is obstructing international efforts to trace the origins of a
pandemic that has now killed over 1.8 million people worldwide.
Stung by criticism that China initially covered up the extent of
the crisis, state media and government figures have been pushing
the possibility that the pathogen did not emerge solely in the
Asian country.
China Making It Harder to Solve the Mystery of Where Covid
Began
Members of the WHO expert team appear to have called off
their travel for now. “No, luckily wasn’t on the way yet,” Dutch
virologist Marion Koopmans said in a Twitter post, in response
to a question on whether she was facing travel obstacles.

The WHO has been criticized for being too deferential to
China through the course of the pandemic, and has been blamed by
other countries for initially downplaying the severity of the
crisis. U.S. President Donald Trump said last year that the
superpower would terminate its relationship with the WHO unless
it “demonstrated independence” from China.
Top Chinese epidemiologist Liang Wannian, who oversaw the
country’s virus response until September last year, told
Bloomberg News in an interview on Tuesday that the WHO’s
investigation would “begin very soon” in China.
The WHO team and experts from China plan to jointly analyze
data and samples taken from the Wuhan wet market where many of
China’s earliest Covid-19 patients appear to have become
infected, he said.
Liang said he has been working with two WHO experts since
July to formulate a plan on how to conduct the tracing work in
China.

China response:

TAIPEI — Responding to criticism from the World Health Organization that China had blocked a scheduled mission to investigate the origins of the coronavirus, Beijing on Wednesday said the two sides were “still negotiating.”

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a regular news briefing that the issue of tracing the source of the virus was “very complicated” and arrangements were needed to “ensure the smooth progress” of the team of researchers.

The Chinese government is facing fresh accusations of a cover-up after officials deleted crucial online data about the laboratory suspected of being the source of Covid-19.

The Mail on Sunday can reveal that hundreds of pages of information relating to studies carried out by the top-secret Wuhan Institute of Virology have been wiped.

Details of more than 300 studies, including many investigating diseases that pass from animals to humans, published online by the state-run National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) are no longer available....

Reversing Course, China Now Says WHO COVID Investigators Can Enter Country Thursday

By Solange Reyner | Monday, 11 January 2021 06:26 PM
China, in a reversal Monday, said scientists with the World Health Organization investigating the origins of the novel coronavirus can enter the country this Thursday.

Beijing initially banned the experts from entering the country, sparking accusations of a cover-up.

"China stands ready to closely cooperate with WHO and international experts. With specific details of itinerary, I refer to you to competent authority,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said during a press briefing.

"The origin tracing may involve more countries. The WHO needs to conduct similar studies in other countries and regions," he added...

Fact Sheet: Activity at the Wuhan Institute of Virology

FACT SHEET

OFFICE OF THE SPOKESPERSON

JANUARY 15, 2021

Share

For more than a year, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has systematically prevented a transparent and thorough investigation of the COVID-19 pandemic’s origin, choosing instead to devote enormous resources to deceit and disinformation. Nearly two million people have died. Their families deserve to know the truth. Only through transparency can we learn what caused this pandemic and how to prevent the next one.

The U.S. government does not know exactly where, when, or how the COVID-19 virus—known as SARS-CoV-2—was transmitted initially to humans. We have not determined whether the outbreak began through contact with infected animals or was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan, China.

The virus could have emerged naturally from human contact with infected animals, spreading in a pattern consistent with a natural epidemic. Alternatively, a laboratory accident could resemble a natural outbreak if the initial exposure included only a few individuals and was compounded by asymptomatic infection. Scientists in China have researched animal-derived coronaviruses under conditions that increased the risk for accidental and potentially unwitting exposure.

The CCP’s deadly obsession with secrecy and control comes at the expense of public health in China and around the world. The previously undisclosed information in this fact sheet, combined with open-source reporting, highlights three elements about COVID-19’s origin that deserve greater scrutiny:

1. Illnesses inside the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV):
  • The U.S. government has reason to believe that several researchers inside the WIV became sick in autumn 2019, before the first identified case of the outbreak, with symptoms consistent with both COVID-19 and common seasonal illnesses. This raises questions about the credibility of WIV senior researcher Shi Zhengli’s public claim that there was “zero infection” among the WIV’s staff and students of SARS-CoV-2 or SARS-related viruses.
  • Accidental infections in labs have caused several previous virus outbreaks in China and elsewhere, including a 2004 SARS outbreak in Beijing that infected nine people, killing one.
  • The CCP has prevented independent journalists, investigators, and global health authorities from interviewing researchers at the WIV, including those who were ill in the fall of 2019. Any credible inquiry into the origin of the virus must include interviews with these researchers and a full accounting of their previously unreported illness.
2. Research at the WIV:
  • Starting in at least 2016 – and with no indication of a stop prior to the COVID-19 outbreak – WIV researchers conducted experiments involving RaTG13, the bat coronavirus identified by the WIV in January 2020 as its closest sample to SARS-CoV-2 (96.2% similar). The WIV became a focal point for international coronavirus research after the 2003 SARS outbreak and has since studied animals including mice, bats, and pangolins.
  • The WIV has a published record of conducting “gain-of-function” research to engineer chimeric viruses. But the WIV has not been transparent or consistent about its record of studying viruses most similar to the COVID-19 virus, including “RaTG13,” which it sampled from a cave in Yunnan Province in 2013 after several miners died of SARS-like illness.
  • WHO investigators must have access to the records of the WIV’s work on bat and other coronaviruses before the COVID-19 outbreak. As part of a thorough inquiry, they must have a full accounting of why the WIV altered and then removed online records of its work with RaTG13 and other viruses.
3. Secret military activity at the WIV:
  • Secrecy and non-disclosure are standard practice for Beijing. For many years the United States has publicly raised concerns about China’s past biological weapons work, which Beijing has neither documented nor demonstrably eliminated, despite its clear obligations under the Biological Weapons Convention.
  • Despite the WIV presenting itself as a civilian institution, the United States has determined that the WIV has collaborated on publications and secret projects with China’s military. The WIV has engaged in classified research, including laboratory animal experiments, on behalf of the Chinese military since at least 2017.
  • The United States and other donors who funded or collaborated on civilian research at the WIV have a right and obligation to determine whether any of our research funding was diverted to secret Chinese military projects at the WIV.
Today’s revelations just scratch the surface of what is still hidden about COVID-19’s origin in China. Any credible investigation into the origin of COVID-19 demands complete, transparent access to the research labs in Wuhan, including their facilities, samples, personnel, and records.

As the world continues to battle this pandemic – and as WHO investigators begin their work, after more than a year of delays – the virus’s origin remains uncertain. The United States will continue to do everything it can to support a credible and thorough investigation, including by continuing to demand transparency on the part of Chinese authorities.

The fate of a Chinese researcher believed to be the world's first Covid-19 patient remains a mystery despite a year-long search by Western intelligence officials investigating the origins of the pandemic.

New Study By Dr. Steven Quay Concludes that SARS-CoV-2 Came from a Laboratory

The additional evidence of what appears to be adenovirus vaccine genetic sequences in specimens from five patients from December 2019 and sequenced by the Wuhan Institute of Virology requires an explanation. You would see this kind of data in a vaccine challenge trial, for example. Hopefully the WHO team can get answers to these questions."...

I think the Dr. Corbett is probably misquoted. Moderna has been working for years using its mRNA platform trying to develop a MERs vaccine which has been circulating in animals (Camels). When SARS 2 emerged the platform was well advanced but just need funding. Also I doubt he would have called it COVID vaccine rather than a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine.

Finding adenovirus in a patient is not odd as we are frequently infected, what do they mean by "adenovirus vaccine genetic sequences"? How do you distinguish it as a vaccine genetic sequence rather than natural one, If it is from a non human adenovirus then it probably came from a vaccine but adenoviruses are commonly used as vaccine vector including SARS-CoV-2 offerings from Astrazeneca and Sputnik 5.
I hope the WHO team do not waste time looking into it.

I think you must be correct about that quote, JJackson. It would be such an astounding revelation if accurate, that I investigated and found Pastor Moore's interview of Dr. Corbett, (both are women), for the Church at the Well in Memphis. I think she talks about coronaviruses in animals in general and the mRNA technology as used in this vaccine.
https://www.facebook.com/wemakewells/videos/425404208905695/

Regarding the adenovirus vector, this article says only one human vaccine with that technology is approved, (or was before SARS2 emerged.) https://www.news-medical.net/health/What-are-Adenovirus-Based-Vaccines.aspx
There are certainly a lot of trials, though.

Emily Ad based vaccines are not new, the opening paragraph of your link is posted below.

"Adenoviruses are considered as excellent vectors for delivering target antigens to mammalian hosts because of their capability to induce both innate and adaptive immune system. Currently, adenovirus-based vaccines are used against a wide variety of pathogens, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and Plasmodium falciparum."

The other point to remember this is in China and I have no idea what vaccines are approved by their regulatory authority. They have a massive domestic vaccine industry so what is being used may be quite different to those approved else where.

I wonder about what vaccines are in use or even research stage in China, too. That would include veterinary vaccines. I think the WHO team is visiting the animal health research center in Wuhan. I don't expect a lot of transparency for them, though.
You are right that Ad vector vaccines are not new, but the summary lead for the article I linked to seems to convey something other than what the article said. There might be an approved TB vaccine, but that is it as far as approved human vaccines in spite of the technology being 30 years old. I found a good article about the Ad vector vaccine's "checkered past" and posted that as a separate thread. I remember researchers in Seattle were involved in the HIV vaccine that made men more susceptible to infection rather than less or even the same risk. It was crushing. There is still no viable HIV vaccine, just treatments.

Expected result....

So over 2 million human deaths without any animal intermediary identified. After a year the best scientists in the world can not identify and prove an animal host. This does not make any sense.

I assume we are the host.

WHO says Covid ‘most likely’ originated in animals and spread to humans, dismisses lab leak theory

He added it was not yet possible to pinpoint the animal intermediary host for the coronavirus, describing the findings after nearly a month of meetings and site visits as “work in progress.”

“In terms of understanding what happened in the early days of December 2019, did we change dramatically the picture we had beforehand? I don’t think so,” Ben Embarek said.

“The laboratory incident hypothesis is extremely unlikely to explain the introduction of the virus into the human population,” Ben Embarek said. “Therefore, [it] is not in the hypotheses that we will suggest for future studies.”

The team had reached the conclusion that a lab leak should be regarded as extremely unlikely “on the basis of a serious discussion and very diligent research,” added Liang Wannian, head of the expert Covid panel at China’s National Health Commission.

Good thing they are back on the payroll to keep us informed and tell us the truth

The W.H.O. delegation that traveled to China is telling the truth from this trip. There is nothing to find there after a lapse of a year in time.

I know for a fact that there was clean up effort to scrub the titles of early papers on the internet because we received at least two requests. So, I can only guess the degree of "fixing" that went on.
