The President has retweeted about a dozen tweets in the past 24 hrs from the twitter hashtag hydroxychloroquine advocating its use as a therapy. This seems an ineffective way for the President to try to shape actual policy, but seems to be an effective way to sow doubt and confusion among those who are prone to conspiracy theories. I call political BS.

I really don't care what the President tweets about. I especially don't care what his medical opinion is. I never look at his account.

If we can carry vaccine and other drugs creation attempts for the last 14 years (and many fail) we can have a discussion about hydroxychloroquine. This is a common drug in use for over 30 years and I believe it is on the WHO list of essential drugs. I did not see any political controversy about the use of dexamethasone for COVID-19. It makes sense to investigate drugs already in widespread use.

In a perfect world - a common and inexpensive drug that is readily available would be effective against COVID-19 - benefiting billions of people.

Political viewpoints/politicians are not relevant in considering various treatments/drugs/therapies for any disease.

I had a serious medical issue a couple of years ago and I did not ask any politician what their opinion was. I researched the situation extensively. I interviewed practicing doctors who were experts in their disciplines. I made a decision. That's it.

Not just the president, but also presidential political allies in the past 24 hours. When you see a concerted political attempt to push a therapy that the medical community has tested and found ineffective, you have to ask why. In my opinion, the doctor in question is a frequent right wing contributor, has stood against mask mandates, has pushed to end shutdown measures, and is now pushing hydroxychloroquine. If politics is behind the push, then the tweets of certain politicians and their allies become relevant. I'm certainly not trying to quell your discussion of this drug as a therapy, just as I'm sure that you are not trying to dismiss my opinion that this is political disinformation. I believe that this is an attempt to shift blame for our coronavirus failure and 150,000 deaths from the president to the medical community due to November's election.
 
The mayority of the studies say it is ineffective in vivo ( both in serious as in mild cases, both therapeutic as prophylaxis) and in vitro (a recent study)
