Discussion - 1st ebola case in US (excluding health care worker transfer) Dallas, Texas - Died

Re: Discussion - 1st ebola case in US (excluding health care worker transfer) Dallas, Texas

Re: Discussion - 1st ebola case in US (excluding health care worker transfer) Dallas, Texas

There are no small kids in that apartment. The apartment contained (until a bit ago)Louise, 2 men in their early 20's, (one of them Duncans' nephew, whose Dad lives in Arizona), and the 13 YO son of Louise and Duncan.

The daughter of Louise was with Duncan when he was transported by ambulance. She has the kids who were in Dallas schools. Where is she? Where are the exposed kids? Louises' ex-husband was also in the apartment when he was transported. Where is he?

Two Dallas deputies have been taken off-duty, and a couple of court employees. A county judge was in that apartment, CNN has a photo of him leaving there!

I'm getting tempted to use the word, 'ugly', again.

Why are these people being taken off duty? Exposure or ....?

I hate to say it but the idea that any medical person would enter that apartment looking so casual and with ZERO PPE gear is so insane as to make me think the whole thing is made up at this point because it is so far beyond the realm of rational thought.

Even on this board, where the most savvy reside, there seems to be a lot of resistance to these 'through the rabbit hole' happenings.

Some news outlets have reported that Louise Troh was not even in the apartment when he was transported, only her daughter and Joe Joe Jallah, the ex-husband.

If this is true, the anecdote about her asking the EMTs to mask and glove isn't true. I know for sure that Dallas EMT gloves for everything.

I'm counting contacts, and where they might be. Where is JoeJoe, for instance, who helped him while he was terribly ill?

Exactly Drakkonmax,

They are so concerned with remaining calm and having the situation under control that they are throwing common sense under the bus.

Pretentiously strutting around with no PPE whatsoever is a slap in the face to the people in Africa that don extensive PPE in a desperate attempt to control the disease and still end up catching it and dying.

The news conference is on. I knew I'd need boots for the muck, but I think I need hip-boots.

Or full PPE....

Looks like investigators have visited too:
Oct. 2, 2014 Zachary Thompson, director of Dallas County Health and Human Services, and Christopher Perkins, the DCHHS medical director and health authority.

edited out photo

Why even bother cleaning the apartment? Looks like there is little concern.

Dallas is in trouble! Hopefully CDC will have a little chat with them. What were they thinking - if not for themselves and their families, then the example they're communicating.

I went out today so I am not at this conference. They are going to have one each day.

Also, please do not post any pictures or graphics unless you have permission in writing from the owner, or the pictures are in the public domain - like wikipedia. Copyright laws can be used to force us offline. I will reluctantly have to edit out the above pictures. Sorry.

Confused ... some of you are now denying this is an Ebola case and ... what ... this is theater?

Stay focused.

The theater is not on FT. People are discussing the apparent entry into the Dallas ebola patient's quarantined apartment by officials without any PPE whatsoever.

That is the theater.

This will all change abruptly when we get the first secondary case.

Whilst the pictures may have to be edited out, would it not be possible to leave a link to them, especially under these circumstances?

Re: Discussion - 1st ebola case in US (excluding health care worker transfer) Dallas, Texas

I think perhaps they are trying to demonstrate that Ebola is not transmitted via fomites, & that it's hard to catch. After all, that's what the CDC has been saying all this time... direct contact with the bodily fluids of symptomatic persons. Period.

If they go in all suited up, that puts these reassurances in doubt. The authorities have stated that they don't recommend the airlines stop flying to Africa, that one can sit next to an ill person on the subway and still be safe, etc. They have completely downplayed the possibility of transmission via surfaces. So they can't go in now and behave as if walking through a room will get them sick.

All this does is make people suspicious- your average person knows very well viruses can be transmitted by doorknobs, etc. Even Ebola, if the knob was touched by a highly febrile individual. The CDC is treating us like children. I think people will not panic if they're told the risk is low but not zero. People can deal with that. People can't deal with sidestepping, obfuscation and a dismissal of their concerns.

On CNN now-

Crew attempted to clean apartment prior to today, but didn't have permits to transport hazardous waste.

Family being relocated and the apartment will be cleaned by a hazmat crew in the next hour.

No one currently showing symptoms, officials speaking to family over 'remote control'.

There is car outside the apartment completely covered and it looks like the plastic covering the car is taped down.
