Did I have H1N1 and not know?

First up I live in Northern Calif. Bay area near San Francisco where the swine flu is running fairly strong. I have finally been able to talk to a few people that had tested positive for the Swine flu and they had what to me appears to have been very mild symptoms. No vomiting etc. basically a slight fever and feeling "bad" for a couple days. Oddly enough a month or so back over the course of two weeks everyone in our family went through somewhat the same mild symptoms. Our son had a fever for 2 days, my wife and myself had very low fevers as well then after 3 or 4 days we all felt fine. My son who was in summer school got sick first, followed by myself, then my wife. It clearly did not feel like a "cold" I remember feeling exhausted and run down then it passed. No need for any meds etc. As I mentioned this seems to match somewhat the story people told me they had for symptoms.

I would be interesting to know on a broader scale if that is what "mild swine flu" is like. Are there any resources to point to mild symptoms? I assume I would never be able to get a DR. to run testing to validate. Any other ideas or comments?

How was the exact timing, any idea who the son got it from ?

After 2-3 weeks you should get antibodies which can be measured
with a blood test.
But not so easy, costs $100-$1000 , I guess
(else they would do it more often)

the 'thing' you had a month or so ago sounds very like the 'thing' we had the week before the swine flu news broke. i'm in atlanta, and one day the baby came home from childcare with snot. the next day his mom had a fierce sore throat. the day after that, i and my husband came down with stuff. he just had the sniffles for a few days (he's 71). i had sore throat, v&d, fatigue (i'm 53). after staying in bed for a day, the throat and other symptoms were gone.

however. my 20 year old daughter and her 26 year old boyfriend got it the next day, and their 2 year old as well. the kid had snot. the kids had severe respiratory junk, fever, cough. and then the boyfriend relapsed the following week, and both developed bronchitis.

none of this was seen to by a doctor. the reason i concluded that it was probably swine flu was:

1. we ALL got it. the entire household. in a matter of days.
2. we never get sick. the babies get colds, but the adults NEVER get sick.
3. we had all the symptoms (between us), even the obscure ones (didn't get conjunctivitis, however).

in georgia there isn't so much flu going around at the moment. i have been wondering since april if the 'flu' we got would be enough to keep us clear of the second wave (or second pulse of the single wave). i guess we'll find out.

Yes, I share your concern. I was sick for a week in April (just before Easter) with "the thing" (headache, body aches, v & d, spaciness like never before) and then again the last week in June. I am just kind of waiting to see if whatever it is returns--I had not had a "sick" day for 14 years at work; I was out for a whole week in April. I called the doctor in April and they told me to take painkillers and hydrate and rest. I will always wonder if it was THE flu.

We have been wondering this ourselves. Back in mid-July my daughter came down with a fever and sore throat and then sniffles for 2 days--then it was gone.

About 4 days later I get a sore throat and lose my voice and develop a cough and cold along with fatigue. It was definitely more than a cold virus--I felt like crap and tired easily-which never happens to me with a cold.

I was incredibly spacey and out of it. My husband started coming down with it 2 days after me and had it just as bad. Our boys had it milder than we did! Barely skipped a beat! Just a little cranky and stuffy but that was it.

I don't remember ever feeling that bad with a cold virus--and never sick like that during the summer

When I called the doc they said no need to come in to get checked out unless I got worse.

Could be it was just a garden variety resp. virus

Who knows--we'll probably always wonder...
