Vanessa Ogden battles mysterious illness as friends rally around her family

Vanessa Ogden heard the shots ring out Dec. 11 as she walked her store at Clackamas Town Center, just a few doors down from the masked man who'd opened fire.

Standing 5-foot-2 and seven months pregnant, the Justice store manager quickly guided nearly two dozen young shoppers and their mothers, and her teenage employees, into a back room and barricaded them in. Two hours later, police rapped on the back door and said it was safe to come out.

"It was absolutely shocking," said Porter, remembering how the ER doctor returned with results from her daughter's MRI. "He could barely believe he had to say it."

The readout showed Ogden had suffered upwards of 60 small strokes.....

Her Facebook page updates indicate that an autoimmune illness is suspected.

Their Facebook page says her condition has now been diagnosed as Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis or ADEM. She is in treatment.
