More findings from bird flu on Lolland and South Zealand


DTU Veterinary Institute has found highly pathogenic avian influenza in several wild birds found in Saksk?bing on Lolland and Agers? next to Sk?lsk?r. Now the Food Administration invites poultry owners in the area to keep their birds under cover.

The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration has found bird flu in wild birds since spring and throughout the summer where viruses otherwise do not usually be in Denmark. Most finds are made around South Zealand and the islands in Sm?land, such as. Lolland. Viruses are fatal to the birds. Therefore, the Food Administration now advises poultry owners in the area to take additional measures to protect their poultry against the infection.

"The disease suffers a season when it does not usually be in Denmark, so it is a special situation. Therefore, poultry owners need extra care so bird flu does not come into a professional flock or in a hobby flock, "says Stig Mellergaard, Senior Vice President of the Food Agency.
 
Find of avian influenza in wild birds

The DTU Veterinary Institute, on August 31, 2018, has detected high-Path bird flu of the type H5N6 in pheasants and cranes on the northern part of Agers? (Eghom), which lies next to Sk?lsk?r. In Saksk?bing in Lolland, the disease has also been found, as it is more swans found dead in a larger group. Other findings from the summer period are from respectively. August 15 and July 16, where the disease was found in a mute swan at Kors?r and an eider in the Sm?land Sea.

A total of 35 wild birds with highly pathogenic flu in Denmark in 2018 have been found.

Earlier this year, oats and mice have been found to be infected, but the infection has now also been observed in other bird species, such as hooded crow, gulls, swans, cormorants, eider birds, pheasants and wild ducks. The finds have been made in many places in Denmark, but everyone found in the summer period has been done around South Zealand and Sm?landshavet. Normally no high pathogenic bird flu is observed in wild birds during the summer period, so it is a particular situation that is followed closely.
