...The Danish Veterinary Consortium is currently investigating whether it is the same bird flu that also circulated in Denmark from the autumn of 2020 until the summer of this year.

However, the board believes that the finding of the disease in the Wadden Sea may indicate that it has survived from last season. This is stated in the press release...

On 16th October 2021, a sample from a Common Teal (Anas crecca) was collected as part of the Danish active surveillance program for HPAI near Vilslev in the municipality of Esbjerg. On 22nd October 2021, Statens Serum Institute confirmed infection with highly pathogenic influenza A virus (H5N1) in the sample.

On 22nd October 2021, Statens Serum Institute confirmed infection with highly pathogenic influenza A virus (H5N1) in the pool sample.

Two findings: The bird flu is back
A herring gull and a greylag goose, which were found dead in Nexø earlier this month, were both infected with bird flu. This is the season's first finding of the disease on Bornholm.

A herring gull that was found dead at Nexø Harbor, and a greylag goose that was found south of Nexø, were infected with H5N1, which is a type of bird flu.

This is stated by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration's bird flu preparedness.

The two birds were found dead on 11 and 12 November, and PCR samples from the birds have been analyzed by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.

This is the first time this season that bird flu has been found on Bornholm.

Last winter was a tough time as the disease spread to several hobby herds, and it is the fear of a repetition of exactly what has caused the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration to raise the threat level from low to high.

This means that all herds of chickens, ducks and other poultry since the beginning of November have had to be kept indoors or covered.
