On 16th October 2021, a sample from a Common Teal (Anas crecca) was collected as part of the Danish active surveillance program for HPAI near Vilslev in the municipality of Esbjerg. On 22nd October 2021, Statens Serum Institute confirmed infection with highly pathogenic influenza A virus (H5N1) in the sample.
