Paraguay Fears Dengue Spread

Asuncion, Apr 11 (Prensa Latina) Paraguayan health authorities warned on Tuesday about the possibility that the dengue epidemic that is affecting 215 people in the country spread to other regions, due to parishioners? trips at Easter.

They explained that the disease?s epicenter is in the capital, the residents of which are moving to other localities and this could cause infection through the bites of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, the dengue transmitting agent.

Health Minister Teresa Leon said other infection sources could develop in the country?s interior within a few days.

The most probable areas for the infection spread are Ciudad del Este, 205 miles East of this capital and southeastern Encarnacion, in Itapua department, where there is great influx of people and overcrowding, she said.

Although health authorities are insisting on implementing preventive measures, dozens of doctors said the health system uses mainly curative and assisting methods

Re: Paraguay Fears Dengue Spread

Since dengue and Chikungunya are so similiar, as is H5N1, they may have cases of Chikungunya and not know it. What will tell the tail will be how this spreads.

If this blows up in the next couple weeks than Chikungunya may be the culprit.

Lets also not forget Indonesia just got added to the list of place with Chikungunya.
