The number of dengue-fever red- alert communities in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, has increased from 61 to 88, according to report of Antara News Agency.

"In our weekly evaluation of the dengue fever situation, there were 88 zones in Jakarta been established as red-alert areas today, "
Salimar Salim, deputy head of the Jakarta City Health Office, said on the sidelines of the launching of a dengue prevention program here Friday.

She said, the city administration would intensify dengue- prevention measures in the affected areas to prevent the situation from worsening.

Data collected by the city health office showed at least 3,389 people in Jakarta contracted dengue between January 1 and February 14 this year, and south Jakarta has the most suffers.

Eight out of 2,458 dengue sufferers died in January and four out of 931 dengue sufferers died in February.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari on Friday launched a dengue prevention program which would be carried out in eight Indonesian provinces which have the largest number of dengue sufferers.

The eight provinces are South Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java and East Kalimantan.

The health minister said the eight provinces had been also categorized as red-alert zones as the number of dengue sufferers in each of them had reached 1,500.
