The Ministry of Public Health and asocial assistance (SESP) revealed that dengue in the Dominican Republic is a social problem, but even so the health authorities in maintaining the normal levels and under control.
Dr. Nelson Rodriguez Monegros, undersecretary of Public Health, made the revelation after indicate that to date there have been a Dominica Republic in 700 cases of classic dengue, of which 25 of them were bleeding and four have died.
"The continuation of the case, it is clear that we would be well below 20 dead and what happened in 2006 that were 53 deaths and 2007 that occurred 43," Rodriguez stressed Monegros.
Rodriguez noted that dengue is not only a problem of Public Health, but of society in which involved a number of factors that deserve action and inter-sectoral levels in order to maintain normal incidence of the disease.
An official of Public Health spoke in those terms during a press conference where he declared the month of June as Healthy, taking into account among other things, that 5 of this month is celebrated World Environment Day.
Activities for the month of June
He said that with the support of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the National Bureau of European Funds for Development (ONFED) and the Office of the first lady has scheduled a series of activities aimed at fixing the concept of Spaces Healthy and socialize with people and projects that SESP programme, in collaboration with other institutions.

La Secretar?a de Salud P?blica y Asistencia Asocial (SESPAS) revel? que el dengue en Rep?blica Dominicana es un problema social, pero que aun as? las autoridades sanitarias lo mantienen en niveles normales y bajo control .
El doctor Nelson Rodr?guez Monegro, subsecretario de Salud Colectiva, hizo la revelaci?n tras indicar que a la fecha se han producido en Rep?blica Dominica uno 700 casos de dengue cl?sicos, de los cuales 25 son hemorr?gicos y de ellos cuatro han fallecido.
"De continuar as?, es evidente que estar?amos muy por debajo 20 muertos y de lo que ocurri? en el 2006 que fueron 53 fallecimiento y en el 2007 que se produjeron 43," destac? Rodr?guez Monegro.
Rodr?guez se?al? que el dengue no es solamente un problema de Salud P?blica, sino de la sociedad en donde intervienen una serie de factores que ameritan una acci?n interinstitucional y sectorial, para poder mantener en niveles normales la incidencia de la enfermedad.
El funcionario de Salud P?blica se refiri? en esos t?rminos durante una rueda de prensa en donde se declar? a junio como mes de los Espacios Saludables, tomando en consideraci?n entre otros factores, que el 5 de este mes se celebra el D?a mundial del Ambiente.
Actividades para el mes de junio
Dijo que con el apoyo de la Oficina Panamericana de la Salud (OPS), la Oficina Nacional de Fondos Europeos para el Desarrollo (ONFED) y el Despacho de la primera dama se ha programado una serie de actividades cuyo fin es fijar el concepto de Espacios Saludables y socializar con la poblaci?n los proyectos y programa que SESPAS, en colaboraci?n con otras instituciones.
Entre las estrategias que se han trabajado Salud P?blica puede citar Municipios Saludables, que resulta una acci?n denominada Paraguas dirigido a las viviendas, escuelas, mercados, mataderos y hospitales.
A partir de la pr?xima semana, se reforzaran todas las intervenciones de movilizaci?n social alrededor del control de vectores, principalmente dengue y leptospirosis con jornadas nacionales de fumigaci?n, aplicaci?n del larvicida abate y colocaci?n de alrededor de dos millones de cebo raticidas en diferentes lugares.
El programa general de actividades con motivo del mes de los ambientes saludables una calidad de vida y desarrollo en una realidad de su entorno sano sigue con la celebraci?n del D?a Mundial del Medio Ambiente, el 5 de junio.
Para el d?a 10 se realizar? un acto relacionado a un ambiente sano y libre de humo, el 12 se efectuar? el foro nacional de lanzamiento de la iniciativa de la Red Nacional de Municipios Saludables.
El 19 de junio est? pautado un acto en donde se crear? la Comisi?n Nacional de Escuelas Saludables, y al d?a siguiente. 20 se inaugurar? un proyecto de viviendas saludables, en Villa Guerrero, El Seibo.
Mientras que los d?as 24 y 25 de junio se estar? realizando el taller nacional para la presentaci?n de las experiencias de las estrategias de ambientes saludables en Municipios, escuelas, mercados, mataderos y viviendas.
