Dengue fever continues to spread across Mexico and it's reached the southern border.

"We've had five confirmed cases in the border region, bordering Yuma County," said Jessica Rigler with Arizona Department of Health Services.

It's a situation ADHS continues to monitor, the confirmed cases are located in San Luis, Rio Col., Sonora, which is approximately thirty miles from Yuma, Arizona...

Dengue-related death reported in San Luis Rio Colorado

A 35-year-old man has become the first person in San Luis Rio Colorado, Son., to die from dengue this year, Sonora state health officials.

The victim, a San Luis Rio Colorado man who has not been identified, died in the state-run hospital in that city on Tuesday, two days after he had been discharged from the same hospital.

The man's death comes as the number of reported cases of dengue in the Mexican border city has climbed to 20.

Sergio Kelly, director of the Sonora Health Ministry's General Hospital in San Luis Rio Colorado, said the man had been admitted to the hospital on Sunday with dengue-like symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting and fever, but was discharged the same day after showing signs of improvement.

He was readmitted Tuesday after suffering worsening symptoms that included nasal bleeding, Kelly told San Luis Rio Colorado news media during a news conference on Wednesday...
