Dari data yang dihimpun Espos di Puskemas Ngemplak, dari Januari hingga Agustus 2008 tercatat sebanyak 49 warga Ngemplak positif terserang DBD dan sembilan orang tersangka DBD. Sementara pada periode yang sama tahun lalu, tercatat hanya terjadi 22 kasus DBD positif.
Kepala Puskesmas Ngemplak, dr Ahmad Muzayin, mengatakan wilayah Ngemplak memang merupakan daerah endemis DBD. Lebih lanjut dia mengatakan, hampir semua desa di Ngemplak merupakan daerah endemis DBD dan angka penderita DBD di wilayah ini merupakan paling banyak ketiga di Kabupaten Boyolali.
Menurutnya, beberapa faktor yang membuat wilayah Ngemplak rawan serangan DBD antara lain karena letak geografisnya yang berada di dataran rendah dan kepadatan penduduk yang tinggi. Sementara nyamuk aedes aegypti lebih suka hidup di dataran rendah.
?Tapi sayangnya kesadaran masyarakat di sini untuk melakukan pemberantasan sarang nyamuk (PSN) terbilang masih rendah,? ujar Ahmad ketika dijumpai Espos di kantornya, Jumat (12/9). Padahal, ujarnya, gerakan PSN paling efektif dilakukan untuk mencegah serangan DBD.

?Jika dilihat dari grafik kasus DBD pada tahun-tahun sebelumnya, kasus DBD diperkirakan akan mengalami peningkatan pada Oktober hingga November,? ujar dia.
