More than 15 physicians at the renowned institute are down with viral fever
The monsoon brings with it a spate of diseases to the Capital every year. This time, doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) are the unlikely victims. More than 15 medical practitioners at the prestigious institute are down with viral fever.
"Suddenly, many doctors are falling sick. This is really surprising as one out of 10 doctors is falling ill. I think, the weather condition, this time has really hit AIIMS," said Dr Debjyoti Karmakar, president, Residents Doctors' Association (RDA), AIIMS.
Doctors also concede that this time the number of patients coming in with complaints of viral infection has gone up too. "The number has gone up by 30 per cent. On an average, we have been witnessing 40-50 patients in the OPD per day. The illness is accompanied with high temperatures - most people have fever in the range of 102-103 degrees," said Dr Randeep Guleria, professor, Department of Medicine, AIIMS.
