Nine fresh cases of swine flu were reported on the Saturday taking the total number of patients to 133 since January 1, this year. All these new cases were confirmed positive by the National Centre for Disease Control. A member of the committee constituted by the Delhi government?s health department to review swine flu cases, Dr R.N. Das, said that nine patients have tested positive of H1N1 (swine flu) virus from different parts of city.

18 New Cases of Swine Flu Reported in Delhi


New Delhi: Eighteen more people tested positive for H1N1 virus today, taking the number of cases of swine flu reported in the national capital to 179, including three deaths, so far this season.

"Today, out of 99 samples, 18 have tested positive for swine flu," said RN Das, who is a member of the five-member team constituted by the health department to review the cases.

Mr Das maintained that there was no cause for alarm and the seasonal infection will disappear once the warmer days set in.

Swine flu claimed two more lives in the national capital today, taking the death toll to five while 26 people tested positive for the H1N1 virus.

While a 53-year-old woman from Chattarpur died at Ram Manohar Lohiya hospital, a 50-year-old woman from Patel Nagar passed away at Safdarjung hospital, officials said.

Also, 26 people tested positive for the virus, taking the number of cases to 199 this month. "The two women tested positive for H1N1 virus and died during the course of treatment. Now the two cases are being reviewed to reconfirm that they died of swine flu," said R N Das, who is part of the five-member team constituted by the health department to review the cases. Last year, 38 cases of swine flu were reported in Delhi.

New Delhi, Jan 23 (IANS) The national capital has witnessed two more death due to suspected swine flu, which if confirmed will take the toll to six, health officials said here Friday.
The officials said 28 new cases were also reported from the city.
R.N. Das, a senior official from the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), said two women in their 50s died with the symptoms similar to those of swine flu.
"Two women in their 50s have recently died with the symptoms similar to that of swine flu. While the first woman from Chhattarpur was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital, the other woman was from Patel Nagar and was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital," said Das.

Trend not showing any signs of slowing down

Forty-six persons have tested positive for H1N1 virus on Saturday taking the total number of cases reported in the Capital to 439, including five persons who died so far this season. In the past 31 days the city has reported over 400 cases of swine flu with doctors warning that the trend is not showing any signs of slowing down.

With the rise in the number of cases, the Delhi Government held a meeting with top health officials to review the situation. Dr. S. K. Sharma, director of health services, Delhi Government, said: ?We have taken stock of the situation and have looked into the logistics of training and availability of medicines etc. Instructions have been issued to the Lok Nayak Hospital to re-train/sensitise the staff about swine flu management, check their ICU preparedness and ensure that there is proper data collection on the disease.?

Swine flu claimed another life in the capital on Sunday taking the total death toll to six this season. The patient, however, was also suffering from co-morbid conditions, said the health department.

The 50-year-old man succumbed at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital where he was admitted for the past five days. He was shifted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital from Rockland Hospital, Dwarka, where he underwent treatment for three days. The patient was on Tamiflu capsules for six days before he succumbed.

?The patient was suffering from diabetes mellitus with hypertension besides bilateral pneumonia. The death was due to co-morbid conditions besides being infected with the H1N1 virus,? said Dr Charan Singh, nodal officer, Swine Flu, Directorate of Health Services (DHS).

In what comes as a relief to the people of Delhi and health officials, the Capital has registered a fall in the number of swine flu cases. Tuesday witnessed only 71 cases.

The total tally now stands at 1,679 cases since the beginning of the year.

?Today, 494 tests were conducted and 71 persons tested positive for swine flu. The total number of positive cases stands at 1,679 as of now. The rising temperature could be attributed to the slight dip in numbers,? a senior health official said.

Three more deaths due to swine flu were Friday reported in the national capital taking the toll to nine, officials said.
According to the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), two patients aged 69 and 51 years succumbed to the viral disease Thursday in central Delhi's B.L. Kapoor hospital and west Delhi's Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute, respectively.
"The point of concern is that while the 69-year-old admitted at B.L. Kapoor was also suffering from blood cancer, the other patient aged 51 was suffering from heart ailment. Swine flu complications intensified their problems," said a DHS official.
The third death was of a 23-year-old pregnant woman, who was infected with swine flu while she was admitted to the Delhi government's LNJP hospital during her pregnancy.

New Delhi, March 5 (IANS) Two top government hospitals in Delhi - Safdarjung Hospital and LNJP Hospital - have reported 16 swine flu deaths this year, top officials said Thursday, contradicting the figure of one death in each hospital given out by the union health ministry.

"There have been a total of 11 deaths in our hospital this year," Rajpal, the Medical Superintendent of Safdurjung Hospital, one of the oldest in the capital, told IANS.

"Of these, seven victims were among the 29 cases referred to our hospital. Three other deaths were of patients who directly came to us," he added.

"All the deaths were reported to the DHS (Directorate of Health Services) but I don't know why were they not made public," Rajpal said.
