NEW DELHI: Not just the common flu, H1N1 influenza or swine flu is also in circulation in the city. Recently, a 52-year-old man was diagnosed positive for the infection at Max Hospital in Patparganj. Doctors said he had been referred from another hospital with severe chest infection and his condition did not improve significantly despite medications.

"We put him on Tamiflu medicines from the first day suspecting swine flu. Later, tests confirmed the diagnosis. The patient has been shifted to another hospital which is designated to treat such cases," said Dr Mukesh Mehra, senior consultant, internal medicine at Max Hospital. He said the OPDs are flooded with patients suffering from flu-like illnesses which exhibit similar symptoms. "Generally, the symptoms go away in four to five days so we don't advise H1N1 confirmatory tests for all," the doctor added.

12 cases of swine flu front

is the capital unfolded another case of swine flu. According to Dr. Charan Singh Delhi nodal officer for swine flu so far this year there have been 12 cases. But it has not killed anyone.

12 H1N1 cases since Jan, govt sounds alert

With 12 cases of H1N1 being reported from city hospitals since January 1, the Health department of the Delhi government has issued advisories to all government and private hospitals, urging them to report all cases and put in place isolation facilities for patients who need admission.

Government hospitals have also been asked to ensure the availability of adequate ventilator facilities for treatment of the virus, commonly known as swine flu.

Unlike the outbreak in 2009-10 and 2010-11, this year, government officials have not advised vaccination and prophylactic or preventive treatment for patients, barring those in the high-risk category ? pregnant women and young children ? or those diagnosed with co-morbid conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.

The cases have been reported in both government and private hospitals, including Safdarjung, RML and Max hospitals.

Delhi records first swine flu death of the season

NEW DELHI: The capital on Friday recorded its first swine flu fatality with a woman from Ghaziabad succumbing to the virus.

According to hospital sources, the woman, who was from Ghaziabad's Model Town area, had been moved from Columbia hospital to Ganga Ram a few days back. She was bought in a critical state and both her lungs had stopped functioning. The woman was kept in an ICU.

She was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of fever and cold, hospital sources said, adding that the woman tested positive for swine flu a few days later and her condition turned critical.

Two cases of swine flu have been reported in Delhi so far.

A 31-year-old woman from Ghaziabad and a five-year-old child from INA Colony were taken to Central Delhi?s Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital on Tuesday. The child was discharged after treatment.
The other patients from Delhi include a 33-year-old woman also from INA Colony, and another 33-year-old woman from Paschim Vihar who has been shifted to a Gurgaon hospital for treatment.
