Delaware flu death toll climbs to 16 for the 2018-19 season

A 90-year-old Sussex County man became Delaware's 16th death related to the flu for the 2018-2019 season this week, according to public health officials.

The Division of Public Health warned that, while the overall number of lab-confirmed cases was down overall according to year-over-year statistics, the number of cases for the current season continues to climb.

Delaware woman, 52, dies of flu; season total up to 17

A 52-year-old woman has died of the flu, bringing the season's death toll to 17, health officials said Monday.

The Sussex County resident died last week, officials said. She was infected with influenza A and had underlying health conditions ? like many of the other Delawareans who have died of the flu this season.

total to 4,511 for the 2018-2019 season. Reports of influenza-like illness (ILI) received from participating providers, facilities and
institutions in Delaware show ILI decreased from 1.8% to 1.1%, below the 2018-2019 baseline of 2.0%. Nationally, ILI decreased

Two Kent County women die of flu, bringing season total to 19

The flu continues to claim Delaware lives, with two more people dying of influenza, health officials said.

That brings the season's total to 19 people.

A 50-year-old Kent County woman died at the end of February and an 82-year-old Kent County woman died last week. Like the others who had died this season, the women both were infected with Influenza A and had multiple underlying health conditions, health officials said.

The 50-year-old woman was not vaccinated, while the 82-year-old woman was, health officials said.

A 90-year-old woman died of the flu last week, making her the 20th Delawarean to succumb to influenza this season, according to health officials.

State: 24 Delawareans have died of the flu so far this season; 3rd deadliest season ever

Four more Delawareans have died of the flu, bringing this year's death toll to 24 people, state health officials said Monday.

The deaths included a 70-year-old Kent County woman, 82-year-old Kent County woman, 56-year-old New Castle County man and a 52-year-old New Castle County woman.

The Kent County women and New Castle County man died in late March, while the New Castle County woman died last week. All of the Delawareans were infected with Influenza A and had underlying health conditions, health officials said.
