First swine flu deaths in MP

Bhopal, Dec 15 (PTI) Swine flu claimed its first victims in Madhya Pradesh today when two persons, including an 11-year-old boy, succumbed to the disease.

This was for the first time that deaths due to HINI virus have been reported in the state, Madhya Pradesh Health Director Dr Ashok Sharma told PTI.

The boy, from Jabalpur, was critical when he was brought to government-run Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital, Jabalpur early today. Other patient hailing from Indore, died in a private medical college, officials said.

Around 20 people were tested positive for H1N1 virus and there were 494 suspected cases, Sharma said.

The state government has made adequate arrangements to contain the disease and a stock of over five lakh tami flu tablets was available, he said.

Indore: One woman succumbed to swine flu here today taking the H1N1 death toll in the city in the last 10 days to six, health department sources said.

The woman identified as Tara Mogra, 61, was battling the disease since the past week, they said.

Mogra was put on artificial life support system but could not be saved, the sources said.

Meanwhile, 18 new cases of swine flu have been detected in the city, they said adding that swab samples of five persons have been sent to Jabalpur for further investigation.

Chhindwara (MP), Jan 4 (PTI) The death toll due to swine flu rose to eight in Madhya Pradesh with the death of a woman due to the disease here, health officials said today.

Zulekha Bi (56), a resident of Badkui town in Chhindwara district, died due to swine flu on January 2 in Nagpur's Orange City Hospital where she was referred for treatment, Badkui Hospital Chief Medical Officer M P Gupta said.

Zulekha was admitted to Badkui Hospital on December 24 with symptoms of cough and cold, but her health deteriorated on December 30 following which she was referred to Orange City Hospital, he said, adding that she was tested positive for H1N1 virus.

Two more suspected swine flu patients were admitted to Badkui hospital and their swab samples have been sent to Nagpur for tests, Gupta said.

23-year-old woman dies of swine flu in Indore

Indore, Jan 4 (PTI) A 23-year-old woman died of swine flu, taking the toll due to the disease in the city to eight in the last 18 days.

Shobha Choudhary, who was admitted to Suyash Hospital on December 31, succumbed to the H1N1 virus, Joint Coordinator of Health Department Dr K K Vijayvargiya told PTI today.

Shobha died on January two, but the private hospital informed the Health Department about it today, he said.

Meanwhile, four new suspected cases of swine flu were reported from the city, Vijayvargiya said, adding their swab samples were sent to the Regional Medical Research Centre for Tribals, Jabalpur.

Indore, Jan 5 (PTI) With the death of one more woman due to swine flu today, the number of persons killed by the deadly virus in the city has risen to nine.

Archana Thakur (26), who was undergoing treatment for swine flu in a private hospital here since December 22, succumbed to H1N1 virus, Health Department officials said.

Swine flu has so far claimed 11 lives in Madhya Pradesh, they said, adding that one more person has been tested positive for the H1N1 virus and while three persons with swine flu-like symptoms have been admitted in different city hospitals.

The samples of the suspected patients have been sent to the Jabalpur laboratory for examination, they said.

Razzak Khan, a resident of Saver tehsil, died at the Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital here yesterday, Joint Director of Health Department, K K Vijaywargiya, said.

Indore, Jan 18 (PTI) The death toll due to swine flu has risen to 13 in the city with one more person succumbing to the H1N1 virus.

59-year-old Shakuntla Utgiriye, from the neighbouring Ratlam district, died of swine flu in a local private hospital during treatment late last night, Health Department sources said.

During the laboratory test reports, swab samples of Utgiriye were found positive for H1N1 virus, they said adding that she was undergoing treatment for the swine flu since January 10 in that hospital.

With her death, the swine flu toll rose to 13 in the city in the last 33 days, sources said.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old woman, who had been admitted to the Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital yesterday, also died today with symptoms synonymous to swine flu during treatment, they said.

Her swab samples have been sent to Jabalpur for testing, they said.

The girl, hailing from adjoining Dewas district tested positive for the HINI virus, breathed her last at Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital yesterday, they said.

Twenty-one people have died due to swine flu in Madhya Pradesh so far, State Health Director, Ashok Sharma, told PTI today here.

Mulchandra Kaluram, who had tested postive for swine flu, died last night at a hospital in the city. Of the 25 swine flu deaths in the state so far, Indore alone accounts for 17, health officials said.

Kaluram hailed from Ujjain district, officials said adding that swine flu has killed three persons in Jabalpur, two people in Bhopal and one each in Neemuch, Chhindwara and Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh so far.

The statement said 22 new cases of the flu were reported today, including 14 in Maharashtra, 4 in Karnataka, and 1 each in Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 29,926, the statement added.

Bhopal, Apr 7 (PTI) One person succumbed to deadly HIN1 virus here, taking the toll due to swine flu to 35 in Madhya Pradesh, health officials said today.

Vijay Prakash Vijaywargiya, a bhajan singer and social worker hailing from Guna district died of swine flu at a private hospital yesterday, Madhya Pradesh Health Department Director Dr A N Mittal told PTI.

The deceased was a relative of Madhya Pradesh Industries Minister Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya. He was tested positive for H1N1 virus and was brought to Bhopal from Guna some days back, Mittal said.

With this the total number of deaths due to swine flu has gone up to 35, he said adding that the state was effectively tackling the disease.

"There was only one person suffering from the disease at Indore in Madhya Pradesh right now," Mittal said.

Swine flu resurfaces in Madhya Pradesh, claims three lives


After a three-month gap, swine flu has resurfaced in Madhya Pradesh, where the disease has claimed three lives till now this month, a top Health Department official said today.

Twenty-two positive cases of H1N1 virus have also been reported in the state.

"Two persons in Jabalpur and one in Indore died of swine flu this month and 22 others were suffering from this disease," health department joint director BM Chauhan told PTI.

No case of the dreaded viral disease was reported in the state between May and July, he said.

One person died on August 3, the second succumbed to the deadly virus on August 11 in Jabalpur and the last death was reported from Indore on August 15, he said.

Of the 22 H1N1 positive cases, two are in Bhopal and the rest in Jabalpur and Indore, Chauhan said.

The joint director said 80 suspected cases of swine flu were reported, of which swab samples of 56 persons were sent for test at Jabalpur-based Indian Council of Medical Research laboratory.

Of these, 25 tested positive for HINI and three of them died, he said, adding the state has adequate stock of medicines and manpower to treat swine flu patients.

MP: Woman dies of swine flu


A woman died of swine flu in Bombay hospital in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday.

The woman felt unwell after delivering a baby.

Woman was admitted to the hospital where she died during treatment.

This is second swine flu death in Indore.

It is noteworthy that last year Ria Sheikh, aged 14 died of swine flu on August 3. It was the first case of swine flu death in the country.

Several states including Delhi, Rajasthan, Pune, Bangalore and Mumbai are grappling with the flu with little success.

According to an official statement at least 7,752 people have been tested so far in the country out of which 1,556 are positive for influenza A (H1N1). Of the positive cases, 689 have been discharged.

In Delhi, health ministry officials said a total of 165 positive cases were reported in India Saturday. Of the 165 cases, 97 are from Maharashtra, but none of them have a travel history, the statement added.

The flu has badly gripped Pune, reporting 69 new cases.

The other new cases were from Delhi (15), Kerala (13), Karnataka (12), Tamil Naidu (5), Kolkata (4), Shillong (4), Pondicherry (3), Mizoram, Gurgaon (2) and Gujarat, Goa, Hyderabad, Patna, Noida, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Faridabad (one each).

The statement said all the cases reported from Delhi, Bangalore, Mangalore, Kolkata, Shillong, Mizoram, Goa, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Faridabad and Ahmedabad are indigenous cases with no known overseas travel history.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 177,457 swine flu cases have been reported till Aug 6, while 1,462 deaths have occurred worldwide, mostly in Mexico and the US.
