Death toll from Russian winter cold rises to 128

At least 128 people have so far died due to an unusually bitter winter in Russia, an Interfax news agency report citing health sources said Wednesday.

About 900 people were being treated in hospital for exposure, the report said.

The latest victims included a man in Orenburg, around 1,500 kilometres south-east of Moscow, and another in Ulyanovsk 900 kilometres east of the capital, as temperatures fell to below minus 30 degrees Celsius. Many of the dead were homeless.

Moscow. The cold weather in Russia has killed over 200 people, a medical source told Interfax.
According to the latest results 207 people, including a child, froze to death.
On Tuesday it was reported that the death toll was 189.
The highest number of dead people is in Tyumen Oblast ? 41 people, Chelyabinsk Oblast ? 37 people and Altai Krai ? 24 people. Four people froze to death in Moscow since the cold spell set in.
