Death rate of Nigerian pilgrims soars

THE total number of deaths of Nigerian pilgrims in both Makkah and Madina has now risen to 13 as at yesterday (Thursday), November 19, 2009.
The deceased, according to Hajj 2009 Medical Documentation and Statistics of the Federal Delegation, died of various illnesses and at different locations.
The deceased also included five female and eight male and that five of them died in Makkah while the other eight gave up the ghost in Madinah.
The death of the pilgrims by states showed that Kebbi state has three; Sokoto, two; Nassarawa, two; Bauchi two; Zamfara one; Plateau, one; Niger one and Kano, one too, bringing the total number to 13.
Apart from death, there are deliveries and miscarriages recorded with one delivery of a female infant whose mother hailed from Hong local government of Adamawa state. The mother and the child are in good condition of health.
Meanwhile, two miscarriages have been recorded and both are from Kebbi state.
As at the day also, 13 referrals were made of patients to Saudi Hospital in Makkah and most of the referrals were successfully managed and the patients discharged.
Four patients were again admitted in King Fahd Hospital, Jeddah for other illnesses and all have now been discharged.
According to the statistics, 10 Nigerian pilgrims were quarantined at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Jeddah for suspected H1N1 but which all turned out negative.
