MYFOXNY.COM - Fox 5 News has learned that New York City had six meningitis cases since late December and three of the cases were fatal. The victims ranged in age from 4 to 74-years-old.

The cases are not due to a single strain of bacterium and the victims have not been linked in any manner.

The New York City Health Department is asking doctors to immediately report all suspected or confirmed cases because of the higher than expected incidence of the disease.

Three cops and a school safety officer have been stricken with meningitis, The Post has learned

The cops include a captain in Manhattan and an inspector with the School Safety Division. The other officer's assignment was not known.

A school safety agent died two weeks ago from the disease, but had serious underlying health issues, a source said.
