Danish six year old infected with EHEC

A six year old Danish girl has been infected with the intestinal bacterium EHEC and is the first Danish child who had the dangerous infection.

The girl is believed to have gotten it from a family member who in turn got the infection from Germany.

Altogether there are now 25 known cases of infection in Denmark, said Danish Statens Serum Institut (SSI). EHEC infection has mainly affected the north of Germany. Altogether some 50 people, including one in Sweden, have died.
