Measles making a comeback

HEALTH authorities yesterday issued a plea to parents to vaccinate their children against measles as the disease appears to be re-emerging in Cyprus after it was virtually eradicated in recent years.
For the first time in years, health services are seeing cases of the measles, with seven so far this year and four in the last month alone, they said.
?For many years we had eliminated the presence of measles in Cyprus but so far this year we have seven incidents -- four in the last month,? said Chrystalla Hadjianastasiou, the head of the epidemic monitoring unit and control of infectious disease.
Two of the seven incidents concerned young women aged 20 and 22 who had not been vaccinated, Hadjianastasiou told a news conference marking European Vaccination Week.
