Cuba confirmed at the end of this Friday more than 2,000 cases of COVID-19 for the second consecutive day, with 2,403 infections, as well as 12 deaths and 1,658 medical discharges, informed Dr. Francisco Durán García, national director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap).

There are 36 680 admitted patients, of them 8 042 suspects, 17 538 under surveillance and 11 100 confirmed, the highest since the beginning of the pandemic on the Island.

Yesterday, he said, 34,608 samples were processed in the country's molecular biology laboratories, and as a result 2,403 infections to COVID-19 were confirmed, 61 less than the previous day.

There are 4,983,124 samples made for the diagnosis of SARS-Cov-2 and 179,656 people diagnosed with the disease (3.6%).

Yesterday 463 young people under 20 years of age were diagnosed (394 are of pediatric age - more than 200 cases are reported for 14 consecutive days - 26 under one year and 15 patients under six months, including a newborn).

There are 24,531 patients of pediatric age. There are 1,726 active, the worst figure since the start of the pandemic, and 92.9% have recovered.

Similarly, the highest number of pediatric patients in intensive care rooms is reported: 11 patients, six seriously ill and five critically ill, one of them with a somewhat unstable condition, Durán García lamented and specified that it is a patient of two-year-old who presents some comorbidities, but who works very hard for his recovery.
