Cuba immersed in fight against H1N1 virus

HAVANA, Cuba, April 19, (Carlos Rios Otero, www.cubanet.org), Cuban health authorities conducted a campaign of immunization against influenza caused by H1N1 virus. In their plans is to vaccinate more than a million people. Until April 12 reported 373 438 vaccinees (33.3%), mainly pregnant women, children, young adults and people of any age who have symptoms.

The Management of Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) entered circulation in the country and several strains that have reported new cases, severe and even several deaths. Only last October there were 41 deaths.

In the spring of 2009, independent journalism put on notice to the public and was the inspiration which prompted the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) to recognize the pandemic. Authorities allege report deaths affect people psychologically.

Meanwhile, Fidel Castro, in one of his thoughts, said the lifting of travel restrictions affecting Cuba by U.S. President Barak Obama, influenced the occurrence of cases of the epidemic in Cuba.
