The province has announced a 14-day COVID-19 circuit breaker targeting northwestern New Brunswick, as the virus has claimed one more life and infected 90 more people.

The measures in the Moncton region, Zone 1, as far north as Saint-Anne-de-Kent, the Fredericton region, Zone 3, north of Deerville, and all of the Edmundston region, Zone 4, are designed to protect the health-care system and prevent the virus from becoming even more entrenched, said Premier Blaine Higgs.

Thanksgiving gatherings for all New Brunswickers are limited to single households, he said.

"We must act. We cannot delay any longer," he told the COVID briefing, which is being livestreamed here on CBC New Brunswick's website.

Fifty people are in hospital, 23 of them in intensive care.

New Brunswick reported another COVID-related death and 71 new cases Wednesday, and clarified the bubble rules for Thanksgiving weekend as well as the two-week circuit breaker for parts of the province.

A person in their 90s in the Moncton region Zone 1, has died "as a result of COVID-19," according to a news release. This brings the total number of COVID-19-related deaths to 14 in less than a week and 70 since the pandemic began.

There are 51 people hospitalized due to the virus, one more than Tuesday, with 25 of them in intensive care, an increase of two. No one under the age of 19 is hospitalized...

New Brunswick recorded 116 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, and the Vitalité Health Network announced all non-essential health-care services will be "greatly reduced" or temporarily suspended, starting Tuesday.

For the Campbellton Regional Hospital, the "red alert" changes take effect immediately because of a COVID-19 outbreak.

Vitalité has "no other option," given the COVID situation and "severe" staffing shortage, which adds to the "seriousness and complexity of the situation," president and CEO Dr. France Desrosiers said in a statement.

Fifty-five New Brunswickers are now in hospital because of the virus, including 31 in intensive care, Public Health said in a news release. That's up from 51 and 25 respectively on Wednesday, and an all-time high.

Epidemiological projections indicate the number of hospitalizations will increase over "the next few weeks," and Vitalité must be prepared, said Desrosiers.

"We must go to red alert internally so that we can temporarily reduce or suspend non-essential services and thereby redeploy staff to maintain our emergency services and intensive care units and the care of patients with COVID-19 who are hospitalized," she said...

New Brunswick recorded two more COVID-related deaths and 130 new cases Friday, and the Horizon Health Network announced it will move all of its hospitals and health-care centres to the "red alert" COVID-19 level next Wednesday.

A person in their 80s in the Moncton region, Zone 1, and a person 90 or older in the Campbellton region, Zone 5, have died, putting the province's death toll at 72.

Fifty-eight people hospitalized because of the virus, up from 55 on Thursday, with 30 of them in intensive care, a decrease of one.

There are now 881 active cases of COVID across the province...

New Brunswick reported 100 new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths on Saturday, the province announced in a release.

Since Friday, 52 people have recovered from the disease and hospitalizations have dropped slightly. As of Saturday, there were 56 people in hospital with 23 people in an intensive care unit.

“Of those in hospital, 41 are unvaccinated, four are partially vaccinated and 11 are fully vaccinated,” the release said.

New Brunswick is announcing two more deaths related to COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the total number of people who have died of the disease in the province to 74.

The latest deaths involve a person in their 70s in the Moncton region (Zone 1) and a person in their 80s in the Fredericton region (Zone 3)...

73 NEW CASES SUNDAY

Health officials in New Brunswick are also reporting 73 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, along with 38 recoveries, as the total number of active cases in the province rises to 962.

According to health officials, 45 of Sunday's 73 new cases, or 62 per cent, are not fully vaccinated. Fiftight een cases, or 11 per cent, are partially vaccinated, and 20 cases, or 27 per cent, are fully vaccinated.

The province says there are currently 53 people in hospital in New Brunswick due to COVID-19, with 22 in an intensive care unit. Of those currently in hospital, 42 are unvaccinated, three are partially vaccinated, and eight are fully vaccinated...

Public Health reported five more COVID-related deaths and 82 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.

There are now 1,074 active cases across the province.

Today, October 14, Nova Scotia is reporting 26 new cases of COVID-19 and 15 recoveries.

There are 23 cases in Central Zone, two cases in Western Zone and one case in Eastern Zone.

There is community spread in Central Zone, primarily among people aged 20 to 40 who are unvaccinated and participating in social activities.

On October 13, five schools were notified of an exposure(s) at their school. As always, all staff, parents and guardians are notified of exposures if a positive case (student, teacher or staff) was at the school while infectious. As of today, Nova Scotia has 198 active cases of COVID-19. Of those, 12 people are in hospital, including two in ICU.

On October 13, Nova Scotia Health Authority's labs completed 3,357 tests.

As of October 13, 1,540,851 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered. Of those, 744,006 Nova Scotians have received their second dose.

New Brunswickers in Moncton lined up by the dozens Saturday morning to pick up free rapid test kits supplied by the province, as Public Health recorded three more COVID-related deaths and 66 new cases of COVID-19.

"Today, another three New Brunswickers have tragically lost their lives as a result of the virus," Premier Blaine Higgs said in a news release.

"This is a sad reminder that everyone must protect themselves and their loved ones by getting fully vaccinated as soon as possible if they have not already done so."

A person in their 80s and a person in their 90s in the Moncton region (Zone 1) and a person in their 90s in the Miramichi region (Zone 7) have died "as a result of COVID-19," according to the news release.

All three people were from Zone 5 (Campbellton region). The third person was in their 80s...

COVID-19 has claimed the life of another New Brunswicker, but Premier Blaine Higgs says the province is on the right path, with the number of cases trending downward.

The number of people in hospital and in intensive care, however, has increased.

And the source of all but two of the 53 new cases is under investigation, pushing the number of cases of unknown origin in the province to an all-time high of 2,118.

A person in their 70s in the Campbellton region, Zone 5, has died "as a result of COVID-19," Public Health said in a news release. This pushes the number of COVID-related deaths to 91.

"I am sorry for the loss of another person to this virus," Higgs said in a statement.

But he noted the number of confirmed cases has decreased over the past few days, and daily recoveries have outpaced new cases.

On Monday, 53 new cases were reported and 138 recoveries, dropping the number of active cases in the province to 849.

"This is a reminder of the importance of following the rules, as doing so works and will allow us to continue on the path we are currently on," Higgs said.

There are 61 people in hospital because of the virus, four more than on Sunday, including 20 in intensive care, an increase of two.

The news release does not indicate whether any of them are age 19 or under.

Of those in hospital, 31 are unvaccinated, five are partially vaccinated and 25 are fully vaccinated.

Of those in the intensive care unit, 18 are unvaccinated and two are partially vaccinated.

Of the new cases, 33 – or 62 per cent – are unvaccinated, seven – or 13 per cent – are partially vaccinated, and 13 – or 25 per cent – are fully vaccinated...

New Brunswick reported another death associated with COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the province’s death toll to 107.

The person who died was in their 70s and lived in the Edmundston region...

According to Public Health, the latest death involved a person in their 80s in Zone 1 (Moncton region)...

According to Public Health, a person in their 40s in Zone 1 (Moncton region) and two people in their 80s — one in Zone 4 (Edmundston region) and one in Zone 5 (Campbellton region) — have died.

With 22 new cases and 57 recoveries, the province now has 589 active cases.

New Brunswick recorded two more COVID-related deaths Thursday and 69 new cases of COVID.

But there are "hopeful signs" the pandemic is starting to recede, said Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health.

New cases have decreased by 50 per cent and active cases by a third since circuit breakers were implemented, she told the COVID briefing.

Still, Public Health is concerned about the rise of cases in Zone 2, particularly in Saint John and the surrounding areas, Russell said. It has the highest positivity rate in the province.

As a result, Premier Blaine Higgs announced the circuit breaker will be expanded to include a larger part of the Saint John region, as of Friday at 6 p.m., and extended for at least seven days.

It may feel like a setback, he said, but it's a "cautionary move" to ensure cases and hospitalizations "don't get away from us."

The circuit breaker already includes Zone 1, Moncton region, as far north as and including Sainte-Anne-de-Kent; the northern portion of Zone 3 from and including Deerville and Florenceville-Bristol, but excluding Hayesville and Parker Ridge; as well as all of Zone 4, the Edmundston region. The Campbellton region, Zone 5, is also under a circuit breaker.

There are 549 active cases across the province.
