Five More Deaths Among H1N1 Cases

The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) reports five additional people have died and tested positive for H1N1. This does not mean H1N1 has been determined to be the cause of death, which is established by the attending physician or the Medical Examiner.
The deceased are:
H1N1 Vaccine Update
According to the California Department of Public Health, a total of 4,900 doses of recalled H1N1 vaccine were distributed in the county. Of those, 3,700 doses went directly to local medical providers and 1,200 came to the County. The County?s Public Health clinics administered approximately 700 doses and 220 were administered at school vaccination clinics. The remaining 280 will be returned to the manufacturer.
According to the FDA and CDC, any children vaccinated with this vaccine do not have to be revaccinated, but those under the age of 10 should get their regularly-scheduled second dose of H1N1 vaccine approximately 3-4 weeks after the first dose.
County residents are encouraged to contact their medical provider to schedule an appointment for the H1N1 vaccine. Currently, County clinics and health care providers throughout San Diego County have limited types and supply of vaccine for the priority groups established by the CDC. H1N1 vaccine is also available at many colleges and universities. Students are encouraged to contact their college?s health center to get vaccinated.
The vaccine will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
To date, a total of 833,000 doses of H1N1 vaccine have arrived in the region and an additional 89,000 doses of vaccine are expected to arrive in the next 1-3 weeks.

- A 62-year-old female with underlying medical conditions
- A 64-year-old male with no known underlying medical conditions
- A 56-year-old male with underlying medical conditions
- A 62-year-old male with no known underlying medical conditions
- A 55-year-old male with underlying medical conditions
