Paul Caruso of the US Geological Survey discusses the seismic event earlier in the western suburbs:

?This is a very large event for a quarry blast or a mining blast,? Caruso said.

Anything above a 2.5 magnitude can be felt, he said, and a 5.5 magnitude can cause damage. He said the blast was felt as far north as Kenosha Wis.

Comments at the link report some damages. People find it hard to believe a mine blast could have caused this.

The congressman whose house shook the day of the tremor headlined a meeting Tuesday of parties searching for a geologic answer. The meeting itself was closed to public and press, but everyone in it says they don't want this to be left as a mystery tremor...

The tremor that shook the western suburbs Nov. 4 seven seconds after a routine explosion at McCook?s Federal Quarry was an earthquake, not a quarry blast, the U.S. Geological Survey determined Wednesday after examining data from Hanson Material Service Corporation, the company that conducted the blast...
