Yellow fever outbreak in Bounkani: The government reassures the public about the response

Northeast Ivory Coast is facing a yellow fever outbreak. According to authorities, 23 cases have been reported, particularly in the Bounkani region, including 11 deaths.

Faced with this situation, the Ivorian government assures that the country has sufficient doses of vaccine and that measures are being taken to deploy the response.

This information was released following the Council of Ministers meeting on October 14, 2026, held at the presidential palace in Abidjan-Plateau. The announcement was made by the Minister of Communication and government spokesperson, Amadou Coulibaly.

More than 400,000 doses in stock.

To allay concerns, the spokesperson provided details on the state of the reserves. "We currently have more than 400,000 doses of the yellow fever vaccine in stock," he stated. As a precautionary measure, additional doses have also been ordered to bolster this stockpile.

A call for vigilance and prevention.

Amadou Coulibaly also issued a call for vigilance and prevention. He urged all those who have not yet been vaccinated to go to health centers, where doses are available.

According to him, vaccination remains the primary means of prevention against the disease. "This is the time to encourage people to get vaccinated against yellow fever because it is preventable when you are vaccinated," he stated.

A disease contained for now

Regarding the progression of the situation, the government spokesperson sought to be reassuring. According to him, the disease remains, at this stage, confined to the affected area. "This disease is concentrated in the Bounkani region. For the moment, we have no evidence to suggest that it has spread beyond this area," stated Amadou Coulibaly.

With 11 deaths out of 23 reported cases, the situation remains concerning in this northeastern region of the country. As the response effort gets underway, the authorities are reiterating their message: vaccine doses are available, and those who have not yet been vaccinated are urged to visit their nearest health center to receive the vaccine.
