Costa Rica vaccination against influenza A (H1N1) and pneumococcal

November 16, 2009, 16:03 San Jose, Nov 16 (Prensa Latina) Social Security Fund and the Health Ministry to begin in the coming weeks two mass vaccination campaigns against pneumococcus and influenza A (H1N1) reported today industry sources.
According to these agencies, the CCSS received last week the first of three batches 126 thousand vaccines to fight the pneumococcus, a bacterium associated with serious illnesses like pneumonia and meningitis.
Health Minister Maria Luisa Avila said for his part that it is not known how many doses against influenza awarded the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to the Central American nation.
However, priests are expected to arrive home in mid December, the date for which the industry is planning the start of the vaccination campaign against the new flu, the official said.
Not yet decided who will be first with the first vaccines, because Costa Rica did not receive in a single batch of 1.8 million doses requested PAHO, said the owner.
However, said people with morbid obesity and asthma are most vulnerable to influenza.
