COSTA RICA: EMERGENCY DECREE BY DISEASE OF CITRUS
BUENOS AIRES, 9 (Bloomberg) - The government of Costa Rica declared a state of emergency to combat citrus bacteria known as "yellow dragon" or Huanglongbing (HLB) detected in the country officially on 21 February.
The decree signed by the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), Gloria Abraham, allocates 300 million colones, equivalent to about $ 600,000 to eradicate outbreaks of the disease, destroy abandoned plantations, pesticide application in insect control bacteria spread and establish a biological monitoring system.
The decree declares quarantine in the cantons of Los Chiles, Upala, San Carlos, Guatuso, La Cruz and Guatuso, where orange is produced on 25,000 hectares. The State Phytosanitary Service (SFE) will coordinate with the private sector, the strategy for the control of the bacteria, believed to be entered from Nicaragua. GAT
