An Aliquippa woman has been identified as the first Beaver County resident to die from a bout with the H1N1 flu virus.

Deborah D?Antonio, 54, died Nov. 3, and the Pennsylvania Department of Health has confirmed H1N1 as the cause of her death, according to Beaver County Coroner Teri Tatalovich-Rossi.

D?Antonio is one of 49 Pennsylvanians who have died so far from H1N1, according to the state health department. There have been more than 10,400 confirmed cases of H1N1, also known as swine flu, in the state.

Known as ?Debbie Lou? to her family and ?Debbie D.? to housemates, D?Antionio was a resident at a Passavant Memorial Homes group home on Maratta Road in Aliquippa. She was born with Down syndrome, according to her sister, Hazel Cinderich of Monaca.

?She thrived in the group home with all the one-on-one attention they gave her,? Cinderich said.

Advertisement D?Antonio, described as a music lover and a fan of Neil Diamond, had several bouts of pneumonia in recent years, according to her sister, and pneumonia and H1N1 flu were both listed on the death certificate.

In October, D?Antonio was twice hospitalized for her illness and lost significant weight, according to Cinderich. She died in her sleep at the group home.

Beaver County has had 58 confirmed cases and one confirmed death, according to health department H1N1 statistics updated through Monday. Allegheny County has had 1,918 confirmed cases and six deaths. Lawrence County has had 131 confirmed cases and no deaths.
