Cooper County, Mo. -
There are about 185 doses of H1N1 FluMist available to children and people who live with or care for children under six months of age, a Tuesday news release from the Cooper County Public Health Center stated.
Recently, the health center received 200 doses of the nasal spray. Direct-care health personnel were offered the mist first. Next on the county?s emergency plan are children ages 2 to 4 and infant caregivers, the news release stated.
On Friday, the health center is to hold an open vaccination clinic for children ages 2 to 4. The voluntary vaccination is to be given to any child between those ages whose parents would like them to receive the H1N1 nasal mist. To be eligible, children must be healthy, have no chronic conditions and have not received the seasonal live nasal mist within the last 28 days, the health center stated.
The H1N1 nasal mist is to also be available for adults who live with or care for children under 6 months of age. To qualify, the adult must be younger than 49 years of age and healthy.
Pregnant women, or women who plan to become pregnant within 30 days, should not take the nasal flu mist.
The clinic is scheduled to run from noon to 6:30 p.m. at the health center, 17040 Klinton Dr. in the Village of Windsor Place. The vaccine is to be given on a first-come, first-serve basis, and appointments were not being taken as of Tuesday.
Availability for the rest of the public is to be determined, according to the county?s emergency plan, after Friday?s vaccination clinic.
Pregnant women interested in receiving the H1N1 vaccine are being asked to contact the health center.
A public notice stated that the health center is expected to receive the vaccine within the next month. Once the vaccine arrives, health center representatives plan to contact pregnant women who want the vaccine.
Those wanting more information may call the health center at 882-2626.
