Connecticut health officials report first 2 deaths of flu season; 47 hospitalizations in 10-week period

State health officials Thursday reported the first influenza deaths of the 2019-2020 season — residents of Litchfield and Fairfield coounties who were over the age of 65.

The season runs from October to May and peaks in December and March, the state Department of Public Health said.

Between Aug. 25 and Nov. 9, 47 flu cases requiring hospitalization were reported to DPH.

A new flu-related death has been reported in Connecticut, according to public health officials.

One new death was reported in the Weekly Influenza Report for December 1-7, bringing the total number of flu-related deaths in the state this season to three. DPH officials said all three patients were over the age of 65.

Fifth flu-related death announced by DPH

HARTFORD — In their weekly influenza update, the Department of Public Health (DPH) announced another flu-related death in Connecticut.

This brings the total number of deaths to five people.

The DPH report also said that 75 people were hospitalized within the past week due to symptoms associated with influenza. A total of 278 people have been hospitalized in the 2019-2020 season.

(WTNH) — The Connecticut Department of Public Health reports two more people in Connecticut have died from the flu this season, bringing the total of reported flu-associated deaths in the state to seven.

The two deceased flu patients were between the ages of 25-49. The five patients who died from the flu earlier this season were 65-years-old or older.

A young child in Connecticut has died from the flu, according to the state Department of Health.

Nine people, including a child between a year old and 5 years, old, died of flu-related illnesses during the week from Jan. 26 to Feb. 1, according to the state Department of Health report.

This is the first pediatric flu death in Connecticut this season.
