CT officials tracing contacts after Trumbull child tests positive for measles amid nationwide surge

​Connecticut health officials are racing to trace potential exposures tied to the state’s newly reported measles case, as they work to prevent further spread during a nationwide surge in infections.

On Wednesday, the state Department of Public Health said a Fairfield County child under the age of 10 had tested positive for measles, Connecticut’s first case since 2021. The child, who was unvaccinated, had recently traveled internationally and began showing symptoms — cough, congestion, runny nose, fever and eventually a rash spreading from the head downward — several days after returning.

The child is a student at the private Christian Heritage School in Trumbull, according to the town’s Health Department. In a letter to families of the school, dated Dec. 11, the department said the student last attended school on Dec. 4. The department stated that unvaccinated or undervaccinated children and adults “must be excluded from school through 21 days after their most recent exposure.”...

The Connecticut Department of Public Health has confirmed the state's first case of measles this year in an unvaccinated adult from Hartford County following testing conducted over the weekend.

The individual began showing symptoms of measles shortly after returning from international travel. Their symptoms included fever, sore throat, cough, runny nose, diarrhea and rash, according to DPH.

The adult is hospitalized and in stable condition, according to DPH.

DPH noted that the individual's travel was not related to the World Cup.

HARTFORD — The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) announced that it has confirmed a case of measles in an unvaccinated Hartford County adult on Monday, June 15. Testing was conducted over the weekend at the State Public Health Laboratory (SPHL). This is the first case of measles reported in Connecticut in 2026. Nationwide, 2,073 cases of measles have been reported in 2026 so far — on track to exceed the 2,288 cases reported in 2025. Connecticut is one of the last states in the country and New England to confirm a measles case in 2026. In the last five years, Connecticut has only had two positive cases of measles and they were both unvaccinated and just returned from international travel.​..

The state Department of Public Health said the second case was in a vaccinated adult from Hartford County. Health officials conducted testing over the weekend and noted the “test yielded a weak positive result.”

Prior to this case, Connecticut had only two positive cases in the last five years. The two cases both were in unvaccinated people who had just returned from international travel, the DPH said...
