The percentage of total emergency department visits for the ?fever/flu? syndrome category has been gradually increasing statewide and is most recently evident in eastern Connecticut.

The percentage of outpatient visits with influenza-like illness has been gradually increasing but remains low.

The number of weekly hospital pneumonia admissions has increased significantly over the past 2 weeks.

During the past week, 26 additional reports of persons hospitalized with influenza-associated illness were received: 1 with Type A (H1N1) 2009, 8 with Type A (H3N2), 16 with Type A unspecified, and 1 with Type B. There has been one fatal infection attributed to Type A (H1N1) novel, a resident of New Haven County aged 50-59 years.

A total of 615 positive influenza test reports have been received including 554 Type A, 22 Type B and 39 of unknown Type. Of the 318 Type A viruses with known subtype 93% were A (H3N2) and 7% were A (H1N1) 2009.

The percentage of outpatient visits with influenza-like illness has gradually increased but remains low at less than 2% of all patient visits.

The number of weekly hospital pneumonia admissions has increased significantly over the past 3 weeks.

The number persons hospitalized with influenza-associated illness has been
increasing. A total of 145 have been reported: 2 with Type A (H1N1) novel, 95 with Type A (H3N2), 41 with Type A unspecified, and 7 with Type B.

A total of 699 positive influenza test reports have been received including: 625 Type A, 33 Type B and 41 of unknown Type. Of the 346 Type A viruses with known subtype 93% were A (H3N2) and 7% were A (H1N1) novel.

• A total of 231 persons hospitalized with influenza-associated illness have been reported and include: 6 with Type A (H1N1) novel, 128 with Type A (H3N2), 83 with Type A unspecified, and 14 with Type B. There have been 4 fatal infections and include residents of Litchfield, New Haven (2) and Windham counties; the patients were all over 50 years.
• A total of 906 positive influenza test reports have been received including: 832 Type A, 45 Type B and 29 of unknown Type. Of the 437 Type A viruses with known subtype 90% were A (H3N2) and 10% were A (H1N1) novel.

• There have been 6 fatal influenza-associated infections among residents of Fairfield, Litchfield, New Haven (3) and Windham counties including 1 patient with Type A (H3N2), 1 with Type A (H1N1) novel, 3 with Type A unspecified, and 1 with Type B; the patients were all over 50 years of age (median age = 85 years).
• A total of 2168 positive influenza test reports have been received including: 1914 Type A, 113 Type B and 141 of unknown type. Of the 744 Type A viruses with known subtype 84% were A (H3N2) and 16% were A (H1N1) novel.

A total of 4,034 positive influenza test reports have been received including: 3,298 Type A, 434 Type B and 302 of unknown type. Of the 1,595 Type A viruses with known subtype 71% were A (H3N2) and 29% were A (H1N1) novel. The percentage of circulating Type B influenza has steadily increased in recent weeks.
