Since the beginning of 2022, seven suspected cases with three deaths have been reported from Impfondo District in the country’s northern department of Likouala on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Central Africa. Samples from two cases sent to the National Institute of Biomedical Research (INRB) Laboratory in Kinshasa on 12 April 2022 were laboratory-confirmed.

Since the beginning of 2022, ten cases including five laboratory-confirmed and five probable cases have been reported from Impfondo District in the country’s northern department of Likouala on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Central Africa (7), from Sangha Department (2), and from Pointe Noire (1), as of 14 September 2022. Three of these cases have died (CFR 30.0%). Two confirmed cases have been reported on week 36, including one from Pointe Noire which has reported its first ever case of monkeypox.

From 1 January to 11 September 2022, the Republic of Congo has reported 19 suspected cases of monkeypox including five probable and five laboratory-confirmed cases, with three deaths (CFR 15.8%). The suspected cases have been reported from four Departments and nine Districts. Impfondo is the epicentre of the outbreak, with five probable and two confirmed cases. The other confirmed cases have been detected in Ouesso (n=2) and Ngoyo (n=1) Districts. Sixty percent of the probable and confirmed cases are females, and 40% aged less than 10 years
